He pulled it off, nice achievement.

However, the reaction by Toto Wolff was uncomfortably stone cold - zero excitement despite his pilot grabbing pole. After a couple of "hah" cheers without reaction from his team, Russell 'summoned' Wolff to react: "Talk to me !". Silence. Russell tried again: "Talk to me !". Only then, Wolff replied with a clinical voice: "Yes [+ something briefly that I couldn't understand because the Belgian journalist talked over it]". Just the bare minimum to congratulate Russell.

Sounds like the atmosphere is tense between Russell and Wolff. Contract extension time and it seems that Wolff keeps Russell in the waiting room.

Alike Johnny Herbert, it seems that neither Derek Warwick is the sharpest tool in the FIA shed.

He has been suspended by FIA for the remainder of the Canada race weekend as a result of openly commenting last week – on a betting website – the Barcelona GP and F1 drivers (he criticized Verstappen, Hamilton, Norris, Stroll, Tsunoda).

As an FIA race steward, Warwick should remain impartial at all times and learn to know that silence is golden. It's an integrity issue. If he likes to be a 'pundit' as Herbert criticizing Verstappen and others on social media or in the press, fair enough, but then have the decency to quit at once as FIA race steward. No conflict of interest. If a personal dislike for an F1 driver clouds his decision-making, then he's clearly unfit for the job, no matter his long service and knowledge. F1 teams and F1 drivers deserve better than that. Look through their eyes – imagine that it's you: you don't want any sports referee in your sport competitions or a teacher taking exams, to be biased and to express bias or talk smack about you on social media or in the press. You want impartial, equal treatment.

1 race weekend ban, is a very mild penalty – Warwick is lucky that he wasn't fired. FIA replaced him with Brazilian FIA race steward Enrique Bernoldi, officiating from the remote operations centre in Geneva for the remainder of the Canadian race weekend (couldn't make it to get to Canada in time).
