A tough day to forget...I was at work when the first plane hit, thought it was an accident. After the second one hit, we all knew. Very sad.

Yep. I always feel different on Sept. 11th. Was in biology 2 lab sophmore year in college. Prof walked in and said something was going on in New York and at the Pentagon.
He eventually let us go early because he and everyone else was too focused on wanting to know what the hell was going on. Went straight to my friends apt. as I did everyday. First thing I see when I walk in is the replay of the 2nd plane flying into the tower. |

^ Hey man.
OT. My phone is ringing off the hook from friends in Houston. They want me to get all the guys I can and all the bobcats and track loaders/dump trucks I can get my hands on. They are saying IKE is going to kick the crap out of the area. He said the forecast models are showing major flooding from Texas City/League City up to Alvin. Then the counter clock wise bands will wap the hell out of Houston. What are you guys seeing and hearing. I have to get ready to go down. I would be staying in College Station and going back and forth.

Not seeing anything now. Just sunny skies, not even a cloud in it. On the news this morning they said that down in Corpus or somewhere around there that the water level is already up about 2 ft higher than normal. It looks like Houston is going to be on the East side of the storm, which is the bad side. My roommate emailed me this morning saying we're about 10 miles away from one of the mandatory evacuation areas, so he's moving everything away from the windows and heading to his parents. Our parents live in the same neighborhood, Jersey Village, and I'm going there today to get my haircut. My mom's making me take one of their Tahoes in case of high water. Since, as far as I know I have to work tomorrow. I'm really hoping not, but they'll probably let us know at like 4 o'clock which is after a lot of people already leave. Things are gonna be crazy, but we won't know really where it'll be making landful until tomorrow so there's still a lot of room for movement. |

Well unfortunately the path models are showing a direct hit from Free port-Galveston. I am watching the news right now. Gulf Freeway is jammed already. Gas is running out every where. I am in Dallas. Thank goodness I got the folks to move from Houston to up here a few years ago. It took them 17 hours to get from Memorial Park to College Station...then no real storm. This one is looking like bad news. Water is already lapping houses on Treasure Island.....

Well, that was a tough few months for us. My father, a captain for American Airlines out of JFK on the 777, thankfully was home that day but lost people he knew from the Boston crew. Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, the Airbus that broke up over Queens and crashed about a month later had a bunch of people that even I had flown with and knew-----was in class in Law school in Miami and my phone rang (vibrated actually) and my parents never would call me during the day, so I left the room and called my dad back and he was very quiet and said, "Mark, I just want to know that we lost another bird over Queens." He told me who it was and I just felt sick to my stomach.
I love flying as does my dad, but that was the day he says they ruined his job.

My condolences to anyone who lost a loved one or acquaintance in that horrible day.
I still remember watching the event unfolding live on TV at breakfast table and then trying to explain to my 7 year old son why he couldn't go to school that day. |

I remember getting a call from my friends in my dorm room that WTC had collapsed and we were all laughing at him for a stupid joke and...
10 minutes later, we put the TV on and we cried. 20 minutest later, we start to see jet fighters flying over us to get to the site. Couple of hours later, we started to see smoke on the sky. And we were good 20 miles away from the site but still smoke caught our eyes. Very very sad moment. |

I was working a block north of the Sears Tower when all this took place...It was a mad dash getting out of the loop in down town Chicago. We really thought that the Sears tower was a target...WHEWWW...lucky to get out of the city when I did...sad day

I was already in the ARMY whan that happenned, when I arrived to the office we found out about it, I was told to get my body armor, my weapon and ammo. We stood guard and secured the base. Since then I have been to Afghanistan twice and to Iraq twice. Finishing my fourth war tour now.

I was on active duty as well that day. We sat in our Emergency Operations Center and watched the second aircraft hit. Then the phones started ringing. The television coverage of that day is available here.
