Canon EF 28-90mm f/4-5.6 III Wide Angle-Telephoto Auto Focus Zoom Lens, Opinions?
http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/137971
This lens is 54 bucks currently, and seems like a deal for a wide angle, has anyone shot with this or have a good review of it? I've searched through google and haven't made too many reviews of it, so I'm still looking for justification if I should buy it or not. I just got a digital rebel XT, with the kit lens (18-55) and the 50mm f1.8 lens, with pretty much newbie to amateur type skills. Would the 54 buck wide angle lens be worth purchasing? |

The 28-90 is a cheap but not very sharp lens. Stop it down to f/8 and you'll get decent results, but the 18-55 kit lens is better. If you can't really tell the difference between the image quality you get with your 50/1.8 and your 18-55 then maybe you'd be happy with a 28-90 - otherwise I think you'll be disappointed. If you want a 28-xx lens spend an extra hundred and get a 28-105 3.5/4.5 or better yet spend a bit more and get a 28-135IS (tons of these available used for well under $300 since they come as part of kits).

Shooting with the 28-90 on your XT will be like shooting with a 45-144. That's not very wide at all. Just remember there is a 1.6x crop factor on your XT, so multiply the number on the lens by 1.6 and you'll have the output of the lens.
