330CI - High pitch whine with acceleration when cold

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have..

I have a 2001 BMW 330CI.

When the car is cold, and I accelerate, there is a high-pitch whine which coresponds with the speed of the engine... It only happens when it is less than 40 degrees outside, and lasts for about 10 minutes..

Any advice would be appreciated.

Is this under heavy or light throttle?
