Just bought a new LCD TV, have a question

I ordered a Sony 46" Bravia KDL46Z4100 LCD TV, this will be my first Flat Screen TV, and I'm pretty excited. I have to wait as it on BackOrder, so that's kind of a bummer. I also have a Blue Ray player on the way. Anyways, I own about 100 DVDs, most of them are in Widescreen, whice I prefer on my 32" tube. What will they look like on the LCD? Should I buy Full frame movies from now on? any advice would be appreciated.

no wide screen movies are the only way to go on wide screen lcd's
full frame are only 4:3 which will either be stretched horizontally on a wide screen tv or have black bars on the sides

So will a widescreen tv fill the frame on my TV, I seem to remember watching a widescreen format DVD on my buddy's tv with the black lines on the top and bottom?

for the most part, but some movies are really wide, and will still have black bars on the top and bottom, but thats how they are supposed to be, but most widescreen movies will fill the tv

Most LCD TV's will stretch the picture to fill in the void on the screen. I installed a Sony Bravia 40" for my grandparents and it does it.

Also My 42" philips LCD does it too.

You can set the screen aspect ratio to 16:9 on the DVD player display settings menu.

I have a standard DVD in the bedroom and a blu-ray player in the living room.

Make sure the cables you get are rated for the 120hz refresh rate too.

My dad has a 52" Sony XBR6 on backorder, for $50 he got a blu-ray player with it.

i have the Sony 52" Bravia KDL52(V/W)4100 LCD TV in my basement. im not quite sure if it is the W or V model but it DOES NOT have that 120hz refresh rate. i cant really compare it to other tvs although it does have sharp picture.

FWIW i have it connected to a sony 350 blue ray player. and i do reccomend HDMI cable.

the 120hz/100hz is just a marketing hype - there is no need to have such a high frame rate on a flat screen. in a crt, higher refresh rates made sense because you ran in interlaced mode (ie. you were only getting half frames broadcasted). However, your lcd is NEVER going to display half of a frame, instead it uses the interlacer in the graphics chip to display full images on the lcd. Whether you get 30 frames or 120 frames means that the same frame is reproduced 4 times. is that not the same as having the same frame on teh display in teh first place???

one day, people will come to realize that 120mhz or 240mhz (as sony is now selling) is just a marketing myth as the 99 USD hdmi cable. Guys we have moved on - we are in the digital world now, analog was yesterday....

Very interesting. Do you have links where I can get this info or are you just saying this because you work in this field?
