Extended Warranty for LCD?

Wondering what if you guys buy the extended warranties offered by the big box retailers? I just bought a 46" LCD, and am debating whether or not to do so.

More trouble than they are worth.

do you know best buy makes more money off extended warranties than all of there store product sales combined?

Check the set out good when you get it home. Check the screen when all is black for dead pixels. 2 or 3 ain't bad. be sure to check the store's policy on dead pixels.

If all is good, the thing will run for years.

I did know that they were huge profit makers. I have purchased extended warranties before and had to actually use it once with good results. But this one runs about $300 for 3 years. Seems a bit steep to me. Plus, I hear alot of people say they are worthless, and that LCD TVs will show defects within the first year which the manufacture covers.

i bought the warranty.
i just spend 2500 on a LCD tv, another 300 was not going to kill me.

I dont usually buy them, but since i spent so much on the tv, i didnt want it to break and have to spend another 2500 in a year or two.

One thing breaks on the TV, and you are not covered, expect to go out and buy a new TV. If you can live with that. do not buy the extended coverage. If you want peace of mind, buy it.

My brother's Phillips Ambilight Plasma broke (in year 3), and he was able to get a brand new Sharp Aquos, 1080p, for nada $.

I've just heard so many horror stories of people who have bought warranties and the headaches they go through when they do actually have to use the warranty. It's hard to know what exactly the warranty covers even if you read the fine print.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it isn't nearly that simple with Leon's regarless of what the sales person may have told you.

On electronics, if you pay 12% of the purchase price to ADD 3 or 4 years of full coverage I feel that it's worth while.

I've heard good things about Squaretrade's warranties. Use code "THIRTY30" to get another 30% off their warranty -- they're the cheapest I've found online with a good reputation. I've previously used Philips' extended warranty program and it was hassle free. I got a check for the full amount of the purchase price 2 wks after filing the initial claim. I always buy extended warranties on TVs, so far it's paid off.

I picked up the 3 year Best Buy extended warranty with my new Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ800U. They bundled it with the TV Calibration package so I saved $150 getting both.

The way they explained it to me is if the TV has any dead Pixels they'll give me a new TV as they are unrepairable. If something breaks they have a 10 day period to attempt to fix the TV, during this period I will get a comparable "loaner" TV. If they can't fix the TV in the 10 day period I will be given a TV comparable to mine with the option to upgrade on my own dime if I would like.

I felt it was worth buying. I also figure to try and fuck something up at 2.5 years old to use the warranty

TV calibration package. They saw you coming.

Also, unless it is in writing (which I doubt), best buy won't replace because of a few dead pixels. They often taught inflated warranty coverage knowing that 1% will ever come back for repair. The dead pixel warranty is with the manufacturer and there is a criteria of 5-10 depending on brand. Most people never notice dead pixels although 4 out of 5 sets have them since there are millions of the suckers.
