Best Laptop for < 1000?

Looking to replace my old P4 desktop and getting a new PC laptop. I heard HPs are pretty good for under 1k.

I will never buy another HP computer as long as I live. I have had two, one desk top and one laptop and both had problems that could never be fixed. On the other hand, I have had many Gateway computers and they all have worked flawlessly. I would recommend you look at the gateway laptops. Last one I bought for my daughter online at Walmart.com. It was loaded (4g RAM/160G hard drive, fast duo processor) only 799. Can't remember the model # but they change very frequently. You will need to shop around.

IBM aka Lenovo.

Toughest mofos arround, we use them for work and they get abused pretty bad and last much longer then Dell's.

I cannot comment on Mac, but dont really have anything positive to say.

I have one. I need a PC laptop. I don't want to load Windows into my MBP.
