Audi has begun production of its new R8 sports car at the Neckarsulm plant in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The launch coincided with the 100-year celebration of facility. "We are giving the go-ahead for the production of a sensational car that opens a new chapter in our company's history," emphasised Audi Board Chairman Prof. Martin Winterkorn in Neckarsulm. "This vehicle adds a new flagship model at the top our range and further advances the position of our brand," commented Prof. Winterkorn. The first customer deliveries of the new mid-engine sports car are expected in May or June 2007. Late last week, Audi announced European pricing for the new car. U.S. pricing is expected to start slightly below $100,000. Source: LeftLaneNews |

What I like about the photos is that they are real- not the juiced-up, highlighted, glossy stuff.
No dramatic lighting, no futuristic architectural setting...this is the real thing in real light. The irony is that they are street shots of the R8 in preperation of making a commercial in Los Angeles....snapped by a guy who claims he was just walking down the street with his digital camera. If you've been to downtown LA you know that it's super-generic big buildings that went up in the 50's - populated by government workers in the day and almost an empty ghost town at nite. Anyway, I love seeing just how low-slung this thing is. It looks new. Not just a "new" car but something that mirrors the new century....this and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. |

Minutia > Note that the LA car is tagged HH BA 740.
The same car (or plates) that appear on the road-worthy model in the official Audi press photos at the front of this thread. It's a runner. |
