Weather in september?
Hey guys ive been trying to pack for my move to NY. Im leaving on thursday, but i have no idea what the weather is like in september. Im coming from san diego, so naturally i have a lot of tank tops, and t shirts. Im thinking september would be warm in long island? But others are telling me that its like 60's.. Ugh i dont wanna unpack all my tanks ..etc. Any advice?

I use to live in NYC, was born there. U.S. Marines brought here 6 years ago and I'm not going back because of the cold weather out there. By the end of September if will start getting pretty cold. 60s but maybe 50s with "windchill". LOL get used to the "windchill" term. I would pack lite on the tanks if I were you. And take few flipflops. You remind me of an article of the the LA Times editor wrote about there daughter going through the same thing? Wait a min.....lol let me look that up
Anyway, by the end of November the cold weather will start be unforgiving, wearing flip-flops and tank tops is the last thing on your mind |

I lived in San Diego for a summer. I remember it to be cool by the Ocean in the morning and at night (sweatshirt weather). The NY weather in September isn't that much different (although much more rain). Plan on the mornings and nights to be cool, but the day to be in the 70s, and it can get into the 80s on warm days. Things start to cool off considerably in October. I would make sure that you have a sweater/sweatshirt, and a rain jacket, but you won't need much more than that for September.

It depends on how used to the warm weather you are. I am freezing when it's 70 degrees so even in the summer when I go up north I bring warm clothes. The best thing is just bring t-shirts and then zip up hoodies. Sandals are fine for most days but you'll need sneakers for night and colder days. I would just bring pants/jeans, no shorts but I never really wear shorts. You'll need a fall type jacket, lightweight.
They have the average temps on weather.com here: http://www.weather.com/outlook/drivi...tomnav_driving But the weather fluctuates a lot there. A few days it will be 75 high, then all of a sudden it's 85 and then a couple days later the high is only 65...it's weird.

September and early October are similar to the climate in Northern California during the winter. (I went to School in Northern California. There are days that are warm that you will have no problem walking around in flops and a tank top (these days are few however), and then there will be days that you will need a light jacket, and a sweater/sweatshirt, because it will be cold and rainey. There are always Indian Summer days in the Fall which are amazing especially in Central Park. The leaves will all have changed color and you can walk around in shorts. Obviously bring jeans and close toe shoes. You won't need real warm cloths until mid to late October. That being said, even in the winter there will be freakishly warm days. Last February I was walking around Central Park in shorts for an entire weekend.

Yeah when I read it on the paper I laughed, then I realized I've been critized by both the east and west coasts. Here in California too, Ive been asked, "oh your from New York, you think your some kind of bigshot then huh", or "where is you new york accent", "were you in the mafia", how come you guys are assholes"....there are others. And teases like this, "Whats wrong with the caa, You going to da piea. I'm from New Yoak" BUT THIS ONE PISSES ME OFF THE MOST!! OH your from "DA BRONX!, how come people from the Bronx always say it like,'DA Bronk', why can't they just say the Bronx". AND I WOULD TELL THEM, "I DID SAY 'THE BRONX', NOT 'DA BRONX'":finger: :finger: :finger: :finger: I was born in the Bronx, and lived througout the Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn...yadayada and finally New Jersey, so I never developed an accent I guess. |

I remember the last year that I was in Connecticut it snowed before Halloween, as I was driving to get my winter tires put on! Luckily it only snowed a little bit and didn't stick much because I had high performance tires on my integra. I also remember a week in February where it was 70 degrees and I was wearing a t-shirt and flip flops. NE weather is crazy. The one thing I hate is how when it rains there, it rains for days or a week straight. In Florida, it rains for like a minute and then stops, so it never really ruins plans.

september is really beautiful, mostly. i know i usually only need a t-shirt to be comfortable and i consider myself a tropical climate kind of guy.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!
I took about 7 tanks out of my suit case. I still have a few t shirts and tanks left, but i figured i could use them for layering or under a warm coat. HAHA 3 sneakers incase 1 goes flat. Well 2 are my puma's (everyday shoes) and 1 are my gym/running shoes. I'm really stressed about how i will be able to work out there. I like to run outside but when it gets really cold, im not sure how to do that. I have a gym on campus, its about 15 mins from my apartment. Im not sure how excited ill be to walk to the gym in snow with workout clothes on. The weather is gonna be probably the biggest adjustment for me. I never lived anywhere else besides san diego. And we're famous for having the best climate.

Bella - no going-away party planned? Oh well, we San Diegans don't have a reason to celebrate...you're leaving!
Take care in New York girl.
