Mine's been working for years now. Sorry to hear about your troubles. My PS3 has been reliable ever since I got it (60GB).
Can't help you there. ![]()

I've had my PS3 for about 2 years now, and been using the wi-fi on it since day one. Its performed pretty flawlessly. Its probably either a problem with the settings your attempting to use on the PS3 or the router.

The original PS3's (60gb) version came with a better wi-fi system including the reverse play for ps2/ps1's games. Unfortunately they cut back on all of these extra amenities to make the Ps3 more cost efficient which in my opinion is a crock of sh*t.

I had a similar problem with my linksys router. If you have alot of traffic such as online gaming and other computers downloading, mine used to freeze and disconnect everything. I found that there was an update the firmware on the router and this fixed my problem.

Try using a different router, or set up a wireless ethernet bridge. E.g. I've got a machine I run FreeBSD on that has a built in ralink wireless 802.11b/g USB card. The signal the card tramsits is weak. The main router in my home is an Airport Extreme, however since the FreeBSD box isn't in the same room with the router, I bought an Airport Express to act as a wireless ethernet bridge. The Airport Express connects to the Airport Extreme (main router), and the FreeBSD box connects to the Airport Express via UTP (ethernet cable). The Airport Express is about the size and shape of a Mac power unit and plugs directly into the wall. It's draft 2.0 802.11n compliant as well, which means you can achieve speeds of up to ~300Mb/s.
Linksys makes a similar device, but it's (*gasp*) more expensive than the Apple product in this case. |

If your linksys is flashable I would suggest that. Check out dd-wrt.com. The firmware is way more customizable than the linksys interface.
No need to change brands, I have a couple linksys routers and they both work fine with my 40gb ps3. The wifi signal from the PS3 is slow, however. I eventually bagged wifi directly from my gaming systems and setup a bridge in my TV room using an old router. Works much faster now. |

i have a 40gb ps3 and my wifi blows also. I tried numerous times to get it to connect. Got it to connect once and it failed after that. I gave up and just hard wired it to avoid all the bs.

Wi-Fi on my ps3 rocks. Hooked up in a matter of minutes and starts streaming huge movies/tv shows in a matter of seconds via Tversity loaded on my PC.

The wifi on the ps3 is fine, its most likely your router. My roommate and I play COD online all the time on 2 ps3's right next to each, and our signal/connection is never a problem. The only time it glitches out is due to another host having poor connection.
