Practice One - Webber and Red Bull lead the way
It was good and bad news for Red Bull Racing as the first practice session for the German Grand Prix got underway at the Nurburgring on Friday morning. Mark Webber set the fastest time of 1m 33.082s in his RB5, but team mate Sebastian Vettel rolled to a halt with a mechanical problem shortly after lapping his sister car in 1m 33.909s. At the time that was second quickest, but he ended the session eighth overall. 1 M.Webber Red Bull 1:33.082 2 J.Button Brawn 1:33.463 3 F.Massa Ferrari 1:33.745. 4 J.Trulli Toyota 1:33.795 5 G.Fisichella Force India 1:33.839 6 K.Räikkönen Ferrari 1:33.840 7 N.Rosberg Williams 1:33.902 8 S.Vettel Red Bull 1:33.909 9 K.Nakadžima Williams 1:33.952 10 F.Alonso Renault 1:34.148 11 N.Heidfeld BMW 1:34.221 12 R.Barrichello Brawn 1:34.227 13 L.Hamilton McLaren 1:34.483 14 R.Kubica BMW 1:34.694 15 N.Piquet Renault 1:34.738 16 S.Bourdais Toro Rosso 1:34.827 17 S.Buemi Toro Rosso 1:34.878 18 H.Kovalainen McLaren 1:34.893 19 T.Glock Toyota 1:34.911 20 A.Sutil Force India 1:35.092

3rd practice –Saturday morning
It looks like McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is back on the pace. The reigning world champion was once again the fastest driver in free practice. On Saturday morning he completed the fastest lap ahead of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Championship leader Brawn had a troubled session. Jenson Button was only 11th, and complained over the radio of difficulty with low tyre temperatures and locking front brakes. Rubens Barrichello missed the first part of the session as his mechanics were still working on his car. Barrichello ended 14th in the session. 1 L.Hamilton McLaren 1:31.121 2 F.Alonso Renault 1:31.340 3 F.Massa Ferrari 1:31.351 4 S.Vettel Red Bull 1:31.542 5 M.Webber Red Bull 1:31.610 6 K.Räikkönen Ferrari 1:31.615 7 J.Trulli Toyota 1:31.620 8 N.Rosberg Williams 1:31.690 9 K.Nakadžima Williams 1:31.731 10 N.Heidfeld BMW 1:31.928 11 J.Button Brawn 1:32.009 12 T.Glock Toyota 1:32.022 13 A.Sutil Force India 1:32.104 14 R.Barrichello Brawn 1:32.124 15 G.Fisichella Force India 1:32.135 16 N.Piquet Renault 1:32.223 17 S.Buemi Toro Rosso 1:32.239 18 R.Kubica BMW 1:32.269 19 H.Kovalainen McLaren 1:32.742 20 S.Bourdais Toro Rosso 1:32.883 BTW I’m not going to post results of the qualification since some people watch it delayed and I don’t want to spoil the fun.

After watching the qualifying sessions....as i heard the mclaren only have one set of aero upgrades for lewis...which the front wing channels air away from the car instead of pushing them into the rear wing....its from the CFD computer analysis and somehow the car is more manageable and works better for lewis....

Ouch. If that's true then Red Bull have completely overtaken Brawn in terms of car advantage. +7 laps of fuel yet qualified faster? Wow.

Yep. Probably a good strategy to go by Brawn to go light and get upfront. Given the weather, there's a decent chance everyone might have to pit early anyway

Adrian Sutil qualified quicker than the Ferrari cars despite carrying a greater amount of fuel!
Rubens Barrichello did likewise with team-mate Jenson Button, who will have the lightest car at the start of the race.

Penalties
Timo Glock has dropped from 19th to 20th after being penalised for blocking Renault’s Fernando Alonso during qualifying. The Red Bull Racing team has been given a fine of €10,000 for an incident involving Sebastian Vettel during qualifying. During Q2 in which Vettel was judged to have been released into the path of Nakajima in the pit lane.

I guess if Webber pulls out cleanly at the start, then it will be a challenge for Vettel to beat him for the win unless Vettel manages to overtake the Brawns at the start. It's been awhile since we've had a GP winner in F1, so all the Aussie F1 fans will be cheering on tv tonight! For some reason we are very good at producing motorcycle GP riders, but not so much F1 drivers lol.

I don’t think Vettel can overtake the Brawns. He is heavier and on the dirty side of the track. He may be overtaken by Hamilton who is on the cleaner side and using KERS. Unless rain will change everything.
