The talk I heard was that BMW's R&D was quite a bit smaller than either Mercedes or Audi and to stay ahead of the competition you really need to be spending more. |

Fellow Jaguar Owner here. I still hope that the 3-series can hold its crown. But the next generation has to be a lot better to stay above the competition. And they have to lower the pricing on it. A loaded 335 costs MORE than a loaded A6 or decently equipped E-class. Yes I know those are two completely different car classes, but the general consumer will thing "hey i can get a car that's a class higher for the same price or less than this entry-level 3 series". Driving enthusiasts excluded. |

A4 3.2 is $43k, C350 is $44k, and a 328i sport w/ step similarly equipped is almost $46k. I haven't driven the other 2 cars so I can't compare them. But I just wanted to list how the pricing goes out. 335 similarly equipped is $50+.

^ and this new car will start right in that same price range, $32,500, however...
In 3 years it will be worth $10,000 and the others will still be worth $17,500 and up depending on options. Old roommate, still a close friend bought his wife a 3 year old CTS for "less than a Cobalt stickers for." When her V6 Camaro was falling apart, her daddy works for GM so she must drive GM... So the news is that there is no news, of course Cadillac wants to steal sales from the 3er, or try too. Those that go might be happy at first, but more than likely will be sore about how the car "ages," and how bad the depreciation is. Until the past year, or so, I still had people asking me how I could afford a "new" BMW. I would laugh and explain that the car was 5 years old, now 6...

I've driven the CTS' and plan on buying one, and a "POS" is hardly what one would call it. The suspension is entirely different than an American car, and is grounded and tought - it feels German. Nicest American suspension perhaps ever. The engine is quick and reliable, and the DI is quick - 306hp. Interior is gorgeous, much ahead of the BMWs, and it's RWD w/ LSD = kick in the pants to drive. Great fit & finish as well - maybe why it won Car of the Year. COTY = POS?
