Getting warranty on a used car

I wanna buy a used e46 M3 but the only thing holding me back right now is the maintenance costs on it. Is it possible to buy extended warranty from the dealer if I buy the car from a third party? If not what are some reliable alternatives?

Thanks

Are you talking about the extended warranty or the extended maintenance program?
They're different.

I want extended warranty on parts so if something breaks down BMW will pay for it

The only ways you can get the BMW warranty is if the original owner buys it before hitting the 50k mark or you buy it from BMW as a CPO.

The warranty is only good for 2 years as well...pretty useless on any E46 M3's now since not much time will be left, even on the last year production model.

Ohh that sucks I thought it was until like 100,000 miles. So is there any other way of doing it?

There are companies out there (Advantis?) that do warranties on used vehicles.

It's 2 years/100k, whichever is first. Obviously if you don't drive 50k a year, the 2 years will be first.

According to my SA, some 3rd party warranty companies (she used GE as an example) are actually easier to get stuff covered through then BMW. Once my factory one expires (Dec. of '10), I'll be getting 3rd party coverage.
