Benzo Problems
I got into a little accident in my GLK last night, and I fucked it up pretty badly...
Some fucktard cut me off, and I swerved to avoid hitting him, and I ended up hitting the curb pretty hard, at like a good 25-30mph... I'm glad I didn't hit anyone or anything else though, 'cause it could've ended up being a lot worse. From what I see (I'm no mechanic or specialist), the steering is messed up and I'm pretty sure my control arms were raped, seeing as each front wheel points in a different direction. I'm worried that I might have damaged right front axle shaft as well, but I'm not sure. Oh, and on top of it, I hit the curb in the red lane, so now I have red curb rash all over my 2 right tires/wheels. Anyways, point of the story: I'm looking for a shop in the LA area that works well with Mercedes and that wouldn't cost me my soul, so any help regarding a good shop would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys.

I don't know if you can tell from the shitty cell phone picture, but the passenger's side tire is bent in and straight, while the driver's side one is turned with the steering wheel.

Just know that it will be filed under your Collision coverages and viewed as an at-fault accident for 3 years before making a claim. Balance that and possibly increased insurance rates with the cost to fix it yourself, then make a decision.

http://www.mbworld.org/forums/3792767-post8.html No, unfortunately, I didn't get his plates. I was too caught up with the swerving and the curb-hitting. I just know he was driving a white c350, but hey, how many white c350's could there possibly be? (sarcasm) No one stopped for me at all after they saw my car jump up in the air...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Since I didn't actually hit anyone, I don't think claiming would do much. I think fixing it myself would be the best option, but I still have to calculate the payments and what not.

From the picture I can say 100% that right tie rod has to be changed. It's like $65 for W204 C300 (for your GLK it might be same or 95% identical part), I changed it myself and saved about $500 from the dealers quote.
Here is a suggestion, (or what I would do) don't take it to a shop. DIY. Jack it up, see what is damaged and change it yourself. You might find EPC net useful for up-to-date part look ups. Personally I would not let anyone touch my car in detailing/mechanic departments. |

If you look @ the pictures in the link, you'd see that DIY'ing it is like rowing up a waterfall in a canoe.

11758 W Olympic Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90064-1292 (323) 879-5710 It's where SMBMW takes all their cars to get worked on. When my Z4 got totaled I was there for a while talking with the insurance agent/body shop owner. During that time i witnessed 3-4 people pick up their cars after repair. A new x5 that had been whacked a 750i and a couple 3 series.. All of the owners were very happy with the work, I overheard every conversation. There was also a couple jags and mercs there too. I personally haven't had any body work done there, but with the cars they had on the lot getting worked on, it looked like they knew their shit. And if I still lived in LA, I'd definitely give them a shot when the time came. Side note: When I hit a tire belt in the middle of the road I wasn't penalized by my insurance company for the repair. At first they wanted to put it as an "at-fault" accident since it didn't come flying off a truck or another vehicle (it was just sitting across 2 lanes). I stated my case, the guy talked to his supervisor and they decided that it wouldn't count against me. I was more than happy to pay my deductible. Z4 @ 80mph + a truck tire tread... trust me paying out of pocket wasn't an option. haha. Also, they can't raise your rates for asking how it would be dealt with... the claim only goes on your record if you ask them to pay it. Good luck though... that sucks when you have a new car and its jacked up. |
