FIA suggests new points system
Formula 1 governing body has suggested that the top ten finishers should be awarded World Championship points as the field increases in size next season.
With 13 teams entered for next season FIA suggests that the scoring system should be as follows: 1st - 25 2nd - 20 3rd - 15 4th - 10 5th - 8 6th - 6 7th - 5 8th - 3 9th - 2 10th - 1

This is just as bad as the existing system which does not reward race victories...
Under current system: 4 wins and 1 DNF = 40 points; 5 2nd place finishes = 40 points Under proposed system: 4 wins and 1 DNF= 100 points; 5 2nd place finishes= 100 points Both these systems suck, they reward concistency over race wins and promote caution over aggression and fighting for wins A good system would be: 1st = 30 2nd= 20 3rd = 15 4th = 12 5th = 10 6th= 8 7th = 6 8th = 4 9th = 2 10th = 1 + 1 point bonus for pole and 1 point bonus for fastest lap of the race Last edited by Ramos; 01-25-2010 at 05:22 PM.. |

Isn't this counter-producting of FOM trying to excite the races???
More points among the field just promotes more caucious race and drivers will settle in mid-pack for "a few points". I still prefer the current system or even the older "10-6-4-3-2-1" system...

10*2.5= 25 Now 25
8*2.5= 20 Now 20 6*2.5= 15 Now 15 5*2.5= 12.5 Now 10 4*2.5= 10 Now 8 3*2.5= 7.5 Now 6 2*2.5= 5 Now 5 1*2.5= 2.5 Now 3 So basically what they have done is multiply everything by 2.5 except that now 4 through 6th places earn relatively less points than before, 7th place is the same while 8th place earns more than before and 9th and 10th are rewarded. At least podiums are more valuable than before now compared to 4th to 6th places even though they did not go the extra mile to make wins more valuable... Either what I proposed in the previous post or even keep this new systen but make a win 30 points |

It looks like they are changing this one more time... Second place now is only 18 points to further reward race wins... Very good decision. Not sure if FIA has approved this yet
The SWG has decided that race winners should gain a greater margin over their rivals for their efforts, resulting in first place scoring 25 points, second 18 and third 15. The remain points will have fourth bag 12, fifth 10, sixth 8, seventh 6, eighth 4, ninth 2 and tenth 1. The changes, though, still need to be approved by the F1 Commission and the World Motor Sport Council. |

Another proposal to change F1 scoring system
Teams have agreed to make another change to the scoring system ahead of the new season. With the top ten finishers picking up World Championship points this year. The latest version of the scheme would reward race winners by a 7-point gap between first and second place. It is a proposal and it has to be ratified by the F1 commission. The new system would see drivers scoring as follows: Winner 25 Second 18 Third 15 Fourth 12 Fifth 10 Sixth 8 Seventh 6 Eighth 4 Ninth 2 Tenth 1
