In the C&D Lightning Laps at VIR the XKR (306.4) was 4 seconds faster than the 335i (310.5) and 1 second slower than the Cayman S and the M3 (305.8, 305.6). It was also faster than the Corvette Z51 (309.3)

Jaguar uses a ZF automatic similar to the Steptronic in the 335i but they use a more conventional paddle setup (right up, left down) that BMW does on the 335i.

While I would not purchase one as a track car I think that is a respectable performance for a car that is primarily intended as a GT Cruiser.

i dont think the jag and the m3 are in the same category....i would rather go with the new 5 series or E class if im going to be driving a middle range "i cant afford an S class or 7 series" sedan but if i wanted a fast middle range sedan it would definitely be a new M5 or E64 over the jag

look on youtube for the review Jeremy Clarkson did on the XFR vs. the E60 M5. He reiterates all the things footie says and if you watch you can see the Jag has virtually no body roll in the corners. And although the M5 has better brakes and the thrill of the V10 is much more appealing, in the US with it being $20000 cheaper I wouldn't think twice about going with the XFR.

As a side note though, I took my dad to the Jaguar dealer to look at exactly the same XFR config as above and my dad hated the interior plastics, like someone else said. Granted he has an E39 M5 which is like the holy grail of "sports saloons" so the bar is pretty high, but after closer examination it's true, the plastics aren't that great. But again, its $20000 cheaper than the M.

The XFR is definitely one of my favorite looking sedans.

Although it's a car that falls for the slightly older crowd imo.

Nevertheless, it looks gorgeous.

I have a 335i and Ms. Audio has an XKR and I like both of them.

The XKR (and the XFR) and not really competitors of the M3.

The M5 is probably a more likely competitor of the XFR.. If I was buying now I would probably take the XFR over an M5 since the current model is being phased out. When the new M5 comes out I may have an entirely different opinion. I am not overly fond of the appearance of the current M5 but the new model looks like it will be a winner.

It's a shame that the interior appeared placticy. Jaguar was always known for the quality of the interiors. They were tradtionally very British (Connolly leather, Wilton carpets, grain matched burl wood, etc. while German cars were much more spartan.

I was also of the same opinion but on checking this out I found that in the UK at least the average age ended up to be only 34yrs, possibly in the US things are different.

I know this is off topic (sort of) but the average age of a 911 driver in the UK is over 50yrs.

That was my first thought when I looked at the pics. Not a big fan of the interior, however I like the alcantara headliner.
Outside is better.

Not a bad car and I certainly can appreciate it, just not the car for me.

I'd rather drive your C63 then the Jag

It's a nice looking car, no doubt. Got the Bang & Olufsen system in it?

Plus points of ownership with the XF/XFR
1/ Heated windscreen is absolutely brilliant and something that more car makers should offer as it works within 60 secs in light frost and when combined with the blower approx. 2 1/2 mins in heavy frost, easily halving or bettering the time expected in a normal car.
2/ The seats are extremely comfortable for long journeys and give a decent amount of support for spirited driving.
3/ The 5.0L supercharged engine is a monster and combined with the ZF auto it works seamlessly between a cruiser and a full on sports saloon, it simply never runs out of power.
4/ The suspension in my opinion offers be far the best compromise between luxury and sportiness of any car in this or any other sector.
5/ It looks like a 4 dr Aston Martin from side on or viewed from the rear, plus it's nose isn't the normal German stereotype which is a breath of fresh air.
6/ Options are cheaper than with the German brands and you luckily need to add very few, namely the B&W speakers, rear camera+front sensors and possibly heated wheel.
7/ More standard kit than most others offer.

Minus points of ownership with the XF/XFR
1/ On summer tyres and in even mild frost it's not the best car to make progress, but in the slightest of snow it is plain awful. So in Canada you will need to think about chains and proper snow tyres in the winter months.
2/ Heated seats take an age to warm up.
3/ Sat-Nav is old hat, though it works surprisingly well.
4/ Touch screen is not a wise move in my opinion, you need to hit the required spot on the screen which means taking your eye off the road.

Plus points for the M3
1/ Great thing to drive with more involvement than the XFR can offer.
2/ An engine that loves to rev and wills you on to do just that.
3/ Manual gears means you have more control.
4/ EDC, a better option than stock suspension as you can balance the comfortable.
5/ Chassis is a marvel and gives more control than just about any of it's main competitors.

Minus points for the M3
1/ Engine though great it does lack low end grunt when compared to what the Jag has to offer.
2/ It's no where near as refined as the Jag, be that on the motorway, the city or on back roads.
3/ Surprisingly it's not anymore economical.
4/ It's ride quality though good because of the EDC, it's again no where near the class that the jag has to offer.
5/ Image but not in a negative way, it's just that when compared to the XFR you will appear to others as a yuppie/wideboy where as the XFR gives an air of class.

Both are great cars but in very different ways. Where as the XFR is more a competitor to the M5/RS6/E63 and it's ride/handling and performance has been gearing to beat these cars, the M3 is developed to compete in a class below and it's ride/handling and performance in far more in your face.

All I will say as a closing note is that the XF has been one of the best cars I have ever owned, never missed a beat, never failed to amaze and will be sadly missed when it goes.

You forgot to mention that with the M3 you will be in and out of the shop iam guessing 4-6 times a year. Iam an XFR owner and a 2009 X5 4.8i owner..I hate the service issues i have had with the X5 and the past bmw's Here in my city its a good month to get your car/truck into service, unless its an express.

I have had my XFR since November and not a single issue, since then my X5 has been in 3 times and has to go back for power steering issues and a new Navi system.

Good luck

The new owners seem to be doing it a whole lot of good.

Ford was always intent on selling Jaguars to the breast enhanced and live in Miami in a house with roman pillars crowd. Too late by the time they realized what it's true calling was.

TATA came in at the right time and will capitalize on its resurgence. Does not hurt that the man who runs it learned to drive in his grandfathers XK120 and knows exactly what makes cars like these tick. I would very much like an XE if they could get it out in a year or two.

Before you say it's M3 post, rememebr, this page is shared by ALL the models. I'm seeing it on 7Post. And if you'll look under that, this is the General Automotive (non-BMW) Talk + Photos/Videos sub forum.

Too many of you 3 series guys think the world revolves around you and your entry level cars....
