However, the 2010 GT500, with just a simple tune and some bolt ons, can become an absolute monster. It is unproven the 2011's aluminum engine can handle, or even make that sort of power. In addition, another thing considering any of the Mustangs right now is the 2011 GT 5.0, which may or may not be the best of the bunch. 400hp stock, very exciting and all. However, there are issues with this car too. Again, the block is all aluminum, with a compression ratio of 11.0:1, which means it will not respond well to boost, so forget about just throwing on a blower for 500whp. Unless you build up the motor I don't see huge aftermarket gains on the 5.0GT, although as always with Mustangs, I'm sure that relatively cheap bolt ons will provide decent gains (way better than what you will see on BMW's). As far as squeezing out huge HP numbers out of the 5.0 without spending some good money to replace some internals (I've read that the connecting rods won't hold up much further past stock HP levels).. I just don't see it happening. Also, another annoying thing about the '11 GT is the fact that electric assist steering is now standard. Purists like myself are cursing the American market out for forcing this unnecessary shit technology on us. As of now, the 2011's have not been out long enough to make judgement. Stock for stock, I would take the 2011 GT500 obviously. But it would be wise to wait and see what the aftermarket community can do to the GT 5.0 before making a decision on that car. I'm sure this summer will definetely bring some developments as more fools get their hands on the cars. Let them be the guinea pigs, then make your decision. |
