The pope drives an X5!
Following an audience with the Pope, the BMW Group yesterday handed over a BMW X5 to the Holy Father. Dr. Michael Ganal, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, and Marco Saltalamacchia, President of BMW Italy, represented the company at the official reception. Michael Ganal: "We are proud to be able to provide Pope Benedict XVI with a BMW car.“ The BMW X5 increases the number of BMW vehicles owned by the Vatican: in addition to a fleet of BMW C1 two-wheelers, the official Vatican vehicle fleet has two more BMW automobiles: a BMW 525ix and a BMW 740i. |

And the pope is a Bavarian born German. So it's just normal to choose for BMW.
20 years ago we were in Rome(my family is Romano Catholic, I 'm not, ok I am too but it doesn't matter to me anyway) and back then former pope JP II drove a Mercedes Gelaendewagen as I recall. |

Hmmm. I thought people paid the Church money to help support the church, not a Pope's frivalous spending. Just makes me further question the Catholic church.

BMW donated the car - no funds spent.
Whatever happened to the popemobile? -Bulletproof car built after the assasination attempt?
