That is all you have right now "fear" of the unknown and pure speculation. I seriously doubt you will ever see a FWD 3-series. BMW is doing this for volume and increase in MPG numbers to meet future regs. They can meet both these goals without ever making a FWD 3-series.

Don't look now, but BMW isn't the only German car company considering FWD...

Mercedes has had the FWD A Class and B Class for years now. Though, admittedly, never in the US.

Anybody remember the "no compromise" marketing campaign of a few years ago where BMW touted it didn't need to make automobiles with compromises since it didn't share platforms?

I think one of the reasons that BMW is possibly going to a FWD platform is to increase volume. I read an article a few months ago talking about how auto manufactures need to increase volume of sales or seek other revenue streams or face being absorbed or merged into another larger company. Look at Volkswagen Audi Group total sales YTD for all of their brands. BMW has a profit margin now if they can increase sales with the same (or better) profit margin that allows further growth and more profitability for the company.
So Auto Manufactures need to increase profitability and increase sales. Always room from improvement. Just read another interesting (although a little old) article on the subject. http://www.oliverwyman.com/ow/pdf_fi...stemprofit.pdf - J

Some things are timeless; '69 camaro, for one -fugly is forever. This thing is never gonna be popular outside yuppies and the San Francisco crowd
