Using a proxy server?

I am temporarily working outside of the US and several US websites, including those that list proxy servers are blocked

1. Can someone please provide me with an IP address of some US based proxy servers?
2. Is it safe to use a proxy server to surf the internet? Are their any security concerns as far as capturing usernames and passwords?
