My first lesson ever in sales was:
Use The Product. If I were the Boss, I would take all my salespeople on drive events to get them acquainted with the finer features and capabilities of the cars. I use the investment products that I recommend to my clients, better believe that.

Right on... There are only one or two of use that drive new BMW's BMW employees really don't make that kind of money to own one anyway. If i didn't have income from something else i wouldn't be driveing my BMW now.

It really depends...
I'd say our dealership is pretty decent in the "percentage of employees with BMWs" rating. -All 5 service advisors own "recent" BMWs... the oldest is a '97 328is, the newest a '05 530i. -Many of our service techs have BMWs... E36 M3s, a couple E30s, E39s, and an E38. -Parts Manager has an E46 coupe -All of our more senior sales people (read: more established, more steady income, etc.) drive BMWs... some purchased, some leased through the special BMWNA/BMWFS reward program. -Most of our newer sales people have identified a strong interest in getting a BMW in the near future, and I think many will actually get one. -I drive an E46 daily and have an E90 and X3 in the household We sell multiple luxury brands, and I'm sure that our store has the highest percentage of owners. I think some of our other brands suffer because their employees don't believe in the product (in other words, the reason they don't drive one is not because of price... they drive other "equally pricey" cars from other manufacturers.)

One of the main reason why I basically believed most of the things my salesman said was because he knew well about the E90. I did tons of research about E90 and went over many of its main features before I went to the dealership to buy the car. My salesman told me everything that I learned, never said a single thing wrong. At that point, I knew I could trust him regarding all these bmw information. Not to mention when I asked him about Lexus IS350(wanted to see his response. I would've been disappointed if he just discredited the IS350 for no reason), he simply said "Great value and a great car. Its no BMW, but a great car." and smiled. He drives a 5 series btw. I am glad my first buying experience with BMW was great. (except for front license plate hassle, which my salesman worked it out with me later. no big deal though)

My dealer owns/leases a 5. A lot of the dealerships nowdays are parts of larger dealership conglomerates that own BMW/Merc/Audis/Infinities/etc. My old service coordinator in NY owned a Merc that he bought at one of the family dealerships.
My old consulting gig brought me to the same location in Northern NJ where the Merc Benz and BMW North American headquarters - Woodcliff Lake, NJ. There were some awfully nice cars parked/driving around the area. We spotted the 3 and the 6 before they officially hit the dealership - all with Manufacturer's plates. I heard that all the corporate employees get very nice lease and insurance deals.
