xbox died again. New xbox or ps3
I knew it was going to happen... my 5th xbox elite died on me.
I am out of warranty and my purchased 2 year extended warranty from best buy has past. So now I am shopping for new game console. I don't know if I should get another xbox or go ps3. I already have lot of games and accessories for xbox so final cost is going to be cheaper but I don't know if I should with all the problems I had with previous gen. Your thoughts. How reliable are PS3? I mainly use the console for media streaming. Should I just build a media pc? Are new xbox's any more reliable than the old one? thanks |

The second time my xbox red ringed I said screw it and sold everything I had xbox along with the broken xbox on ebay and made 450. Went and bought a ps3 and a game. I had my ps3 ONE WEEK and it stopped playing games. I called sony and gave them so much crap about how I switched from Microsoft for this and now this ps3 crapped out on me in one week. I had a brand new ps3 at my door in 2 days and that one has been going strong for a year and I love it, and the blueray is def a plus.

my PS3 60 gig originally bought for 600 bux when they first came out went strong for a year and a half... then the blueray player took a shit. No discs could be read anymore... so I did what anybody would do and looked on youtube on how to take this bitch apart and install a new blueray drive... did that and it worked again for another year perfectly. Then it overheated and died again. Wouldn't start up ... so i did what anybody would do and opened that bitch up again and stripped it down to the heat exchanger and cleaned it and put new thermal paste on the cores agian... that worked for a couple days and it died again... Fuck that now i'm getting pissed and walked out to gamestop and bought a new slim version. 7 months later the blueray player died... like Yesterday and now i'm full fucking circle except i'm still in warrentee range, so i'm going to send this back to Sony for a new one. Instead of wanting to play games on it again i'm just going to upgrade my pc - already took my black ops to gamestop and exchanged it for the pc version. /rant

Goddamn that sucks balls.
I'd say go PS3 but like you said, you have all the accessories for the XBox.... I can't fathom spending the money on a "new" console, even the "current" generations given the hardware involved... Just get something used if you find a great deal. |

A friend of mine went through like 6 360s as well. He recently got one of the brand new ones (with the different case and stuff) and so far so good.... I mean like 4 months so good lol. My PS3 is still running strong after like 3 years or so. The PS3 is definitely more reliable than the 1st-gen 360, but I haven't heard any horror stories on the 2nd-gen yet.

So long as those accessories are still in good shape and not covered in cellular material, you should be able to unload them

I got the elite the day it came out. It redringed after a month. Got it replaced and my second one crapped out in early march, the disc drive no longer spins after 3 1/2 years.
Im in the same boat, but im gonna take this one apart and see if I can fix it. Wish I could upgrade all of the chip sets, PC gaming is so much better, but all of my friends play 360 games...damn my sheeply mentality... |

But the sheep friends are all really bad at COD, so we get put into shit lobbies. Which is awesome, because Im not shit and end up going with a 3-1 K/D with a scoped magnum and throwing knifes.

360's are like HPFPs. they're awesome...then they break. luckily i havent had either issue. my original launch 360 from 2005 still works just fine, after 100s, hell probably 1000s of hours of use.
but definitely build a PC, it's not based on 6 year old hardware that was obsolete 6 months after release
