I hope this is a good sign
I was always a huge fan of BMW (I've owned 5 in the past 7 years) But there is almost nothing they make now that excites me (except maybe the M2) They are all meh type designs Yeah they look good, but they are in no way pushing the design envelope in anyway It seems with BMW design it's either extreme (bangle butt, GT models) or bland designs. I really think they've lost the plot to this ultimate driving machine moto Now it's become a pissing contest about total sales with audi and MB

I'm glad he's moving on since it seems like BMW is going back to the same sausage different length design theme.
And personally, I think the 2002/M2 Hommage looks awful reminds me of this:

If I put on my design evaluators hat for marketing purpose.
I must ask what makes it a BMW?

Kidney grilles (which get bigger by the generation) Hofmeister kink Double headlights (even if the inner one doesn't do anything) A "shark" or aggressive nose They're now trying make out the the L shaped rear lights are now part of that, even if they look rubbish on certain cars, like the LCI 1 series. Much as I'm fond of these signature design features, they hardly make a coherent design language anymore. Jaguar, Mercedes, Land Rover/Range Rover all seem to have a more coherent family design language at the moment to my eyes. By that I mean stance, proportions, silhouettes, more than small design features.

Other cool BMW concepts.
Other cool BMW concepts.
This is the direction I like to see BMW go in; Modern Retro Classic, Ultra Sleek Modern but still BMW. Functionality with sex appeal. And for the Ms total badass with optional M xDrive! Last edited by DCG; 01-24-2017 at 01:31 PM.. |

Absolutely hideous. Every single example. That from someone who has bought BMWs since 1971.

Updated 3/17/17:
Via Autonews: TOKYO -- Infiniti, Nissan Motor's premium brand, named Karim Habib, former global design chief for BMW, as the brand's new chief designer, effective July 1. Habib will replace Alfonso Albaisa, who will be promoted to lead Nissan's global design. Habib will report to Albaisa. Habib, a Lebanese-Canadian, studied engineering in Canada's McGill University before attending the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California prior to joining BMW as an interior designer. In 2012, he was promoted to head of design at the brand. The executive will be based in Nissan's technical center in Atsugi, Japan, and lead Infiniti's design teams in Japan, Beijing, San Diego and London.

Remember not everyone likes OVER THE TOP
OVER THE TOP is nice to look at once in a while but not everyone wants to drive it to the supermarket I suspect Infiniti will now begin to have a more balanced design and sell more cars BMW .. keep the design planted and keep the powerplants hummin' |

At least he will be used to badges on the back that have no relevance to the engine anymore. Wish him the best...
