if I trade in my 28i for the M35i, I'll probably use sport mode every single day! The M35i will probably do 0-60mph in 4 seconds flat with ease.

although I also wonder if it will have the dreaded stop and start like on every modern vehicle(BMW or otherwise).

I think I must have lost some senses or something as I really don’t notice the stop start on the X1, nor on my other BMW, I notice it more on my non BMWs which are also dual clutch (PDK) ….definitely must be me as everyone seems to complain about it.

Depends on your driving style I suppose. If you’re light on the throttle and don’t take off at stop lights immediately you probably wouldn’t notice it as much. But the stop start isn’t as much of a problem as the throttle delay in personal mode. It hesitates for a second or two at the worst times, and isn’t consistent when it happens. The feeling of coming to a yield and then mashing the throttle and nothing happening is very disconcerting.

maybe not 4 seconds flat, but 4.5 seconds seems likely? the specs show that the M35i is a second faster than the 28i.

I have always managed to reach 60mph in close to 5.6 seconds in my xDrive28i. When I get a chance, I may even try again using launch mode(which I haven't done yet in my X1) Someone remind me again how to do launch control in the X1?

So I know I’ve seen and heard everywhere thag this comes with the DCT that many people don’t like. But on the order guide it lists the standard transmission as a stepteonic trans… anyone catch this? Likely just a mistake on the order guide but would be nice.

For sure that a typo but these fwd platforms can't take a regular transmission.

all the articles that I've read showed "Steptronic" transmission, such as the Motor Trend article here: https://www.motortrend.com/news/2024...rformance-suv/

even BMW's own website says steptronic... see it here on BMW's own press release: "The all-wheel-drive system is assisted by the mechanical limited-slip differential built into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission of the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive."

That would be great, I could swear I read or saw a video where they say it’ll have DCT but that would be ideal. I hear nothing but negatives about the DCT.

Steptronic is just their lingo for automatic shifting and not the transmission itself if I’m not mistaken. The non M35i X1 literature in some markets also says Steptronic and is the DCT. And I have no problems with the DCT itself. Most everyone complaining is complaining about the throttle lag, which has almost nothing to do with the transmission and everything to do with the throttle map programming. It’s very important to understand the difference.

Yeah this is spot on, the original X1 press release says 7 speed Steptronic transmission the same as the M35i nothing new and it will be the same DCT gearbox in both no change.

The first time I saw "steptronic" be used in brochures was about 30 yrs back and all it meant was: you can change/overrule gears by pulling/pushing the lever or through the paddles. Nothing more, nothing less. It was never a reference to technology used: slushbox (planetairy with torque convertor) or DCT/DSG (robotised synchromesh with or torque convertor or wet/dry clutch).

Did anybody notice that it has lost 50Nm compared to the 135M? Does anybody know why?

I came out of my gym yesterday, and one of these was parked next to my X5, and I looked at it and thought WTF is that.

Not been keeping up on new cars this past 12 months or so, and had pretty much turned a blind eye to anything BMW with the hideous crap they've been releasing of late.

So, I looked at this and saw the badge on the back and the 4 exhausts and seats, and thought........
Car looked like it was Brooklyn Grey, and it had Oyster interior with the diamond stitch seats.
Interior looked really nice, apart from lack of I-Drive controller, which likely means bloody useless touch screen rubbish.....certainly there was a lack of lots of buttons on the dash area.
I had to look on BMW UK website to find out what it was, and found out its just out.

Now, before anyone says, oh but its not out yet etc.,etc, I need to point out that the gym I use is pretty much just across the road from BMW-GB HQ offices in Farnborough, and there's lots of BMW-GB staff use the gym, so it was almost certainly a BMW-GB management car....
think these will sell well here in UK, and in EU as we approach the end of ICE cars by 2030, and with diesels being classified as child killers and being taxed off the roads in big cities....and EV's being stupidly expensive here in UK.

Its certainly re-sparked my interest in another BMW.
The loss of my job recently just a few years before retirement has pretty much meant no chance of replacing my current F15 X5 with another new X5, given the huge price increase from when I bought my F15 new in 2017, or even a new X3......and to be honest with a forced early retirement looming, I simply have no need for anything larger than what the F15 X5 is, so while I will miss the comfort and quality of the X5, something smaller and cheaper to see me into retirement is more likely on the cards, but nothing was ticking the boxes in that regard, from any other manufacturer, so keeping the X5 and just running it into the ground is still the likely option, but I'm certainly going to try and arrange a test drive of one of these new X1 M35i's to see what they are like.

The 23d has 400Nm and 211 PS. If you chip it you can get comparable performance to the 35M. It just doesn't look as cool on the outside.

Theoretically yes, however where does one procure a chip for this car?

Race Chip and Chiptuning make a couple. The highest current chip creates 242 PS (239 HP) and 440 Nm (325 ft/lb) for 580€.

Of course I'd rather have an M35i but I thought it was interesting I could come relatively close with a chip. HP numbers not so much, but I can surpass the factory torque. I need a diesel so don't have much choice.

Is anyone else having issues with the AC?

We’ve had our new M35 for about a month, and it’s getting hot here in Texas. The performance of the AC thus far is abysmal.

It’s seriously the worst AC I’ve ever experienced in any car. What makes it worse is that we traded in my wife’s F87, and that thing had one of the best AC units ever.

It makes me hate the car. I’m not going to lie.

There is a thread regarding the aircon, might be worth a read.

agree with you 100%.

I love my X1(regular xDrive28i M Sport), but the AC is horrible. I thought it was because I didn't have window tint. I got it tinted last week with xpel prime xr plus 35% all around. It only made the car slightly cooler... but the AC still can't keep up with 90-degree weather.(warm and humid)

Even an inexpensive 2023 Honda Civic's AC can easily make me feel freezing cold... while my X1's AC, even at "low" with fan at max speed, can't make me comfortable.
