Was looking at an 800 main/key and 2 supporting 400's (fill and back lights) to start.

I think a single 800 (maybe it was the 1600 though, I can't remember) can light up an entire pitch black tunnel
Have you watched One Light yet? If not, I highly recommend it before making any purchases.

I think I have a copy of it. I'll have to recode it for the web overnight, but I can host it for you if you want?

it's a little cheaper if you go with LumoPro strobist flash but yeah you're right it can get pricey but the appeal for me is portability...pocket wiz are gonna cost too

nice twitch, let me know how you like the 800's... wondering if I can get away with an 800 main and few 400s as fills

I think you can Seth. One of my buddies bought two AB800s, but after about 2 weeks he returned one. He's only using one of them for his main now, and his speedlight for fills.

I grabbed this shot of this sailboat while trying to keep my balance on a moving ferry boat. The sailboat was blasting by at a good clip and we were moving in the opposite direction, so I wasn't able to frame the shot quite right. It's bugged me that the sailboat was slightly out of frame. Lately I've been working with reconstructing things in Photoshop and this seemed like a good project. Probably wouldn't hold up to printing, but for web posting it came out ok, I think.

^the boat looks good, but i see a few spots that look kind of funky in the background to the far left.
i recently got some alienbees. i have a ab800 and ab400, they are very awesome lights. i just need a vagabond and some pocket wizards now.

looking good man! I would've brought out the yellow channel a bit more, so you can highlight those fogs.
Btw, how did you get rid of your ambers on the headlights?
