I would like to supplement it with more opinion.
This is watching from 2 guys who had M3 during their freshman year. BMW M3 will attract more dudes first. It will get dude's talk about you more. When dudes talk about you a lot, ladies will later follow. I think i got more chicks attention from talking about stock/securities/financial market than driving a nice car. |

I wasn't offended - I just thought the Peter Griffin quote would make someone laugh...
but yes, I got married and started working 55-60 hours in a cubicle... had all the money in the world to go eat anywhere I wanted for lunch, and we did - 5 times a week... for 4 years "bringing lunch to work" was laughable..... |

I had similar choice in college....Ford Focus or Gallardo...on one hand I was thinking about gas mileage but other lime green car had slightly better sounding exhaust...I couldn't decide so I went with our family hauler Ford Bronco.

He's young and stupid with a grossly underdeveloped prefrontal cortex (Note: This is true of all 18-25 year olds. He's not special in this regard). I'm not surprised that he's reckless and selfish enough to go 165 on public roads. I was no saint myself at his age.

I'd say if the speedo is over by ~10% then your right at the limiter. But I just want to add two comments:
1. Going that fast on public roads is stupid. 2. Stop trying to impress people and just be yourself...you'll get more respect that way |

That is true, I did go that fast and was pretty stupid decision; however, other than that situation I do respect the rules of the road.

What I would say about medicine is that it's a real tangible, and needed skill. That mutual fund manager living in the 9 bed / 11.5 bath house with the 5 car garage and Porsches, Ferraris, and summer homes on the Cape and Hyannis, does he really do anything that we need? Nope. So who is to say which is better? The individual. |

Medicine probably ensures that you'll live a comfortable lifestyle from your mid 30s or early 40s and beyond. There's a delay due to schooling (4 years), residency @ ~$40k/year (3-5 years), and possible fellowships beyond that if you specialize. But to be brutally honest money was never a factor for me, and beyond a certain point it's nothing more than a game. On your point about the mega-affluent hedge fund manager, I'm always fascinated by what drives these people to make more money once they're far beyond the point of diminishing returns. There's a nice special on CNBC called "untold wealth" that delves into this very issue. In the opening minutes they show I think a CEO worth $50M+ mirroring your sentiments exactly - "I don't need this. I don't need this to live..." It's a quick, 45 minute watch for those interested - |
