Exactly! We walked away from our house after Katrina, found a real estate speculator who bought the shell from us. Sure enough, a year later it's on the market so we went to check it out without telling the agent who we were. They had done NOTHING to the second story except steam clean the carpets and paint the walls, despite the house having eight feet of water in it for MONTHS! Down stairs we had gutted before selling but there was terra cotta tile on the kitchen floor that we left and it was still there, surely with mold growing under it...

Buyer beware, whether it's a contractor to repair or another home to replace a flooded one...

Since those bottles are vendor supplied they are sold individually. Looks like they multiplied the "each" price by the number of bottles in the case. It's technically not price gouging since it's not a retail case like you'd by at a grocery store. I think they meant well by offering the water as
a case, but didn't realize people wouldn't understand and view it as gouging.

I understand it's an emergency and all, but how do you leave your furry child to fend for themselves???????? The wild animals have enough of a challenge, but they are wild and so at least have some instincts/experience to draw upon. The pet dog/cat/snake/chinchilla/ferret are DEPENDENT on you for food and water and a trip outside to pee.

That's true, but if you have to choose between your kids or your pets, or you get separated from your pet in the chaos, you're not going to look for it when your kids are terrified already.

Yesterday the cajun navy mobilized 400 boats in rescue operations, those are hard working folks that dont riot, loot or protest. The deplorables.

They are going around to homes, presumably because they get a notice the pets were left behind, and picking them up to take to a shelter. Like, a FB page where you post you left them behind. That's not quite the same as choosing between kids with/without fur. And the rescue boats I've seen haven't been without furry children in the mix. See Cajun Navy above

Did everyone in Texas fill up their gas tank? Shortages are already hitting the DFW area. I filled up at Quick Trip last night, the line at each pump was 3 deep at 11pm. Corner Market/Valero station by my house is already out of gas.

Probably more related to the refineries that went offline. I'm sure the local stations got their gas from them and are having to change their source.

Funny - prices here in Canada have gone up. Because, you know, flooding.

In fairness, it probably does have something to do with the crude we send down there to the refineries. The lesson here is that Canada clearly needs more national refineries so we are not as impacted.

Read the article. It was a few employees at one store multiplying the number of bottles in a case with the price per bottle. They don't sell cases of water.

Facts are more important than hysteria.

See above.

Also I've read where some very limited increase in prices could be good in some certain circumstances. For instance if 24 people are thirsty and need water, and one person buys the last case of water for themselves, then 23 people go thirsty. Whereas if the price is too high for that person to hoard, then all 24 can get water.

What I would do if I had a store in the area is buy as much bottled water from an out-of-state supplier that I could then give out 1-2 bottles of water for free to each individual. That way everyone stays hydrated but can't hoard.

Re: The gas "shortage"... I'm watching the news now here in Dallas area and there is NOT a shortage!!!
Folks are essentially panicking and overwhelming stations normal flow of fueling. Reserves are "completely stocked" according to local gas officials.
