Guys, Max has had 2x to sign with Mercedes and Jos wouldn't let it happen. The most recent was when BOT was not in contract just before VER signed his L/T contract with RBR. Racing HAM is not something Max wants to do while HAM is in his prime. Lewis has destroyed more top talent in identical cars than any driver due to his relentless pace and one-lap speed. I'm not downgrading Max but his first real championship level drive was this years' win. His other wins have been flashy and fast but that doesn't make a championship level win. As of that win, Max is now a championship level driver. The ones on the grid now, IMHO are: HAM, MAX, RIC, LEC and RAI. No other drivers on the 2020 grid are there.

His lack of racecraft was masked by the speed of the Mercedes. He was complaining on the radio saying that he can't race without engine modes and the ban is a joke.

The second time is inferred. Why sign with Red Bull when there is a Mercedes seat open when BOT hadn't yet signed. Lewis will take on any driver at any time. If they pressed and wrote a performance-based contract, I'm certain Mercedes may have taken a chance on VER.

The former is when Max first got into working towards an F1 seat. Jos said that Max was ready for F1 rather than GP2, as Mercedes offered and racing against Lewis wouldn't be the right move for Max that early in his career.

When you think about it from a laymans perspective it always comes down to the car.Over and over again I read from fans it's HAM's car that makes the difference and their opinion should not be ignored. He should enjoy it naturally and I have no doubt he will achieve another 3 race wins to finally overtake Schumi's tally and equal his seven championships.

The starting procedure for BOT's car was again puzzling to him despite having same (new) procedure as HAM 'watching the lights' and his first lap maladies thinking he had puncture with understeer and then the car mysteriously righting itself. Any comment from Wolff??

This is going to piss off a lot of Bottas fans but his first few laps of the Italian GP was very reflective of his ability or lack thereof. Instead of pressing on and overtaking (which he has done before after a bad start), he keeps trying to find a reason to blame the car instead of poor driving.

Punctured tires? No, Bottas. Your tires are fine.
Bad engine map? You only have one map, Bottas.

Mercedes knew that they didn't have the strongest straight line speed but the car is still dominant. Hamilton passed enough cars to make his way to 7th.

I'm losing patience with Bottas.

No doubt winning the Italian has sent Gasly onto cloud 9 suggesting he is the perfect candidate to replace Albon. It's already known that Alb is trying out many new parts to see if they're any good, at times driving a ropey car where it's the only way to test them, to face the mammoth of Merc.
I'm very happy he won but F1 is no dream island and if I were him I'd stick to the devil he knows.

Indeed...I think the Verstappens are smart enough to realise that its likely (not certain but a high probability) that Hamilton would be faster overall than Max at Mercedes.
Being beaten by Hamilton at Merc would heavily devalue Verstappens reputation.
Better being the unopposed #1 driver at Red Bull than be the "Bottas" at Merc.
Plus why would Merc take Max when Lewis is currently untouchable.

The reverse grid qualifying idea sounds fun if a little Hollywood.
