old drivers were smoking, drinking often, having a big belly wasnt a problem as well..

maybe they were risking their lives more but for G part, cars couldnt grip that much in corners for that..

modern F1 cars are much safer but more physically demanding, old cars were risky to drive but less physically demanding.. so if you swap drivers, both might struggle.. but if you re fit you can risk your life, but if you re not fit you cant cope with physical demand.. so i agree with MK..

The older cars were still 4-wheel drifting around corners. And don't even bring up braking in modern F1 cars.

Current F1 drivers are exposed to more consistent G-forces than any other people in the world. More than fighter pilots, astronauts, etc.

Yes I said in my original post that the guys that drove those old cars were 'real' men & I stand by it. You replied by saying that today's drivers are fitter and yes they are fitter, what's your point?

As for Romain, I suspect that you picked him out because of his miraculous survival from the initial impact & escape from the flames. I fail to see how this makes him more 'manly' than the rest of his generation of drivers, yes his fitness helped with his survival & escape & with flames licking his arse, what else would he or any other driver do...he's not the only driver to have escaped a burning car.
Had it not been for the Halo he wouldn't have had a chance to emerge from the flames like the Phoenix he now is.
