Again, not super happy right now. I sure hope BMW figures out a plan soon and takes care of its M customers. Make that repeat customers in my case...

That is such fuzzy logic. Your car is going to depreciate. That's what cars do. If you got it in June, it would be two months before the '17s would be out. If it were July, it would be one month (or less). What's the difference? I ordered my '16 M4 because I wanted it. By the time I get it back from my ED, it will most likely be late September. I don't care.

If this is true and it's a noise issue, it is likely not a big deal (ie. the rear end is not falling off) other than the PITA to deal with it. I suppose, from one perspective, it's a good thing that BMW is dealing with it rather than simply ignoring it. Nothing worse than a problem with a car that the manufacturer pretends doesn't really exist.

I don't believe so, this is affecting every country. There is another long thread about a bunch of UK owners who are affected too. I'm also in Canada and affected as well.

Doesn't matter which country the car is destined for, they all share the same rear diff. Points to a supplier issue more than anything.

Except I believe the can still deliver the cars in other countries to be brought back upon the recall. Im not sure what other country has that same law as US where you are not allowed to deliver the car until it is resolved

I can't speak for every country but the UK owners can't take delivery of their vehicles either, same as me and I'm in Canada. My M4 has a stop delivery on it and it rolled off the production line on July 5th and it's still sitting somewhere in Germany.

My feeling is that they're not delivering any vehicles until the rear diff is replaced.

I was hoping that at least they would put my car on a ship and get it over the pond then have the rear diff replaced at port or by the dealer. I have a gut feeling any cars that haven't already left Germany are being held back to be fixed at the mothership.

If it's only noise, I wish they would let folks take delivery of cars at their leisure. It's not like as BMW owners, we're not used to strange noises emanating from our cars.

I think the issue is once BMW acknowledges the issue (i.e. recall), it is illegal to have deliveries occur before fixing it regardless of the severity. It's not BMW's decision on delivery once they know there is a problem.

I have another theory on this as well. As we all know dealerships are independent of car manufacturers. If BMW has identified an issue and cars haven't been delivered yet and I were a dealer principal I wouldn't want to use my service staff to fix an issue. Now I realize that dealers get compensated by BMW for any warranty work that has to be done to vehicles but I'm sure it's not at the same hourly rate that they charge us consumers. If there is a potential large delivery stop such as this dealers also wouldn't want vehicles occupying their lots and taking up service bays.

Possibly but I don't expect this is it. They are not legally allowed to make delivery. The dealer would absolutely be fine to do the repair as they make money on it (regardless as to whether it's top rate or not) so unless they are at complete capacity and it will interfere with regular service customers, it makes little sense for the dealer not to be happy doing this. I think this is simply BMW knowing they can't deliver the vehicles (by law) and, therefore, it is easier to coordinate a central fix rather than having cars at random dealers all over the globe sitting around waiting for a solution/parts/etc. To me, this is more about BMW wanting to control the process than it is the dealers not wanting to take the cars.

I am truly hoping the wait goes fast for all of those affected, especially those with ED plans. The recall states cars built 5/12-6/4. My car was "in production" 5/5-5/17, so far as of yesterday Mo told me I was not affected. I'm taking it into the dealer in about 2 hours for the 1200 mile break in service (picked it up 3 weeks ago). I'll see if he knows anything. Best wishes to all!

On a side note, my 2009 335 is being serviced there too. I'm going to have both my cars in the shop.

It's most likely that it is simpler and cheaper to ship a crate of diffs to a limited number of port(s) for installation.

My car is in the same situation as your, most likely the VPC at the US port will handle the repair. I also ended up doing 1258 miles on my trip so they will also do the first service there too.

Reported a recurrent noise problem (that seems to be generated by the diff) to my dealer who subsequently informed BMW.

To update you, the list of 202 is now affecting 3800 M cars.

So we are all probably in it. All of us with M cars purchased between these dates.
