got a spare bedroom for people trying to flee the excessive rain here?

it's finally a partially clear night here. people are out everywhere....

but we are getting forcasted at about 40-50% chances of rain all weekend still, which lately 10% chance of rain means 100%

"What was that? An Eagle?..... Where?" The motherload of turtles.

Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/331.99 second
Aperture = ƒ/7.03
???? unusual

Did you PP sharpen the picture?

only processing i did was take out a tiny bit of blue, darken exposure a tiny bit, add about about 7 points of saturation, and a pretty big crop as i was on my 70-200 lens.

I'll have to go to my other computer to actually see what the shutter and F stop were, that's weird that those numbers came up like that. I'll post those up in the morning when i'm back on that computer next.

and those aren't all the turtles that were there That was just the biggest grouping.

I just downloaded it off the forum to check what it said and i got
shutter speed 1/320th
and F 7.1
100ISO
focal length 200mm

not sure why you got those weird numbers out of it. weird.

I'm seeing some artifacts from compression I guess in the upper and lower OOF parts. It could also be some heat distortion from the cropping.

I see.
Just rechecked the EXIF and I was looking at the "APEX" values, time to google that one.

Edit: they lost me when they said "logarithmic"

i think it's mostly due to me not liking using the Image stabelizer too much, but i'm trying to teach myself to use it more... and the crop just exposes it more, it was a very tight crop, that's pretty close to 100% crop.

but i did also shrink down the file some, so there's probably a bit of compression loss.

and that was the first hot day of the year, so the heat waves wouldn't surprise me either.

Not using the IS would make the photo sharper as long as you can hold it well.

I have tendancies to stumble a lot while holding the camera, it's mostly because i'm almost always trying to get lower because of my height, i've had people complain about my perspective from being so high up

so usually i'll have a super wide stance and a slight slouch, or i'll really be slouching a lot to get a shot that looks like someone of average height took it.

I'm just going to have to start leaving the IS on all the time, or drop to one knee.

Screw them.
One thing about some really good photos is that they are not "average". Unusual perspective or angles. I'll try to fall into a canyon to get somewhere that every passerby cannot just pull out their cell phone and snap a shot.
Everyone takes pictures of their car standing up and you can tell. The ads will show either lower at bumper level or from above ( you have an advantage here, I don't)
For those turtles, if anything I would get as close as I can to the level of the water and try and shoot parallel to it. I am always trying to hunch over if I happen to be trying to take a picture of a person, getting the camera at chest level.
Especially women

sadly, i couldn't get much closer to the turtles without getting a soaker, I was already on wet ground which is why i didn't lay down to get the shot, otherwise i would have been more then happy to.

Chest level is a great level to shoot from

depending on the situation, being tall does help. For example, having the wide angle lens on, i can just hold the camera up to the ceiling and take a shot downwards, and get a pretty neat perspective of a room.

I was going to add that to my pictures of cars comment. I'll just use my 8' ladder.
Hmmmm wheels start turning.
