Thats strike two!
People which let themselves down onto the machines and start texting and taking senseless pictures are a no-go for me and I have no problems to tell them to move their butts off the machine and decide first if train or text and stop blocking others.

Been training for 35yrs,I simply put my ear buds in and focus on my shit rather then look around at the idiots...BUT,if ya had to ask me here are a few things that I simply shake my head at and walk away:

People that literally have no clue what they're doing and hogging the equipment like nobody else is there..taking selfies, etc.

That, and 125lb soaking wet newbies in the gym with a week under their belt doing 20 sets for bi's,40 sets for chest, etc with all sorts of advanced exercises instead of basic compound movements. Or,they'll be doing the latest fad routine posted up on IG from these so-called fitness guru's.

But the number one issue I have is when people will hover around me in the middle of a set staring or rudely start a convo in between sets asking,"are you competing?". For the past several years I just wear a hoodie while I train no matter how hot it may be inside gym so I don't have to deal w the constant BS

Rant over

People who don’t wear shoes when working out. Walking around in socks or bare feat is gross. These same idiots doing squats with socks on. Just go buy a pair of lifting shoes.

OMG! I agree 100%. Absolutely annoying. What’s even better when someone has a pretty fit upper body working out next to you lifting more weight acting like the big guy and then you look at their legs. I see this epidemic daily.

Lol very true. I see so many people loading up the bar to 405lbs on the squat rack, you know the type: the dudes that are wearing a 6" olympic lifting belt, knee wraps,Bodybuilding.com tee shirt and 3 spotters yet when they do their reps, they only come down 4-5" max lol.
I've been tempted many times to sneak behind them mid-rep and push the bar down so they go ass to ankles like a real squat but we know that 405lbs will bury them lol

Yeah and they have skinny freaking legs. I would say social media videos ruined these people but I’ve seen this before the internet

People who think that the weights and machines belong to them and they corner the market on them. Especially when they take multiple weights and machines, while only using one at a time, with total disregard that at some point other people would like to use them. Oh and, people that aren’t smart enough to bring their own water.

Guilty as charged
However in my defense it's strictly if I'm supersetting 2 bodyparts;I keep tellin em to move the chest/back machines as well as the bi/tri machines closer to one another. It's a non-issue if I'm training w someone and were supersetting together.

Also,99% of the time I'm training before 5am when the gym is basically empty which pretty much eliminates someone from jumping on one of the machines I'm using whilst on the other machine I'm using.

Had an old guy doing this at our gym for a couple months. He'd bring an actual stack of towels (10+) and leave 1 on each station and not return for 30 minutes. He'd be across the room playing on his phone.
One of my buddies picked up all of the towels and stacked them next to his water bottle after he'd been in the bathroom for 10 min. He no longer does the towel thing.

New one for me is these high school kids have started walking around shirtless to go pick up weights, workout on benches etc. I didn't know I'd joined Gold's Gym from the 80/90s.

I hope this doesn't become a new thing... I'm a keep covered up kind of guy, typically in the sweat shirt for bulk of my workout.

I hear ya, I'm in there at 5am and it is pretty desolate which is nice - just the respectable folks in at that time.

Haha well I'm definitely one of the guys that is sleeping at that time. I always go after work.
Ideally, the best time for me to be at the gym is between 9:30-11am, but this whole work thing gets in the way.

Just as I thought I've seen everything there could be at the gym, I see a new one. This guy who is maybe 5'5 or 6 and small build is bench pressing. I then noticed he had 225 lbs set up. I was thinking now way this dude is benching that as even "retard" strength can only get you so far. I go about my workout and then glance over and now he's got 275 lbs set up on the bar. I was thinking what the heck. He asks the guy on the bench next to him for a spot. He goes over to his bench and then I realize something. He has one of those pretty stiff rubber work mats laid out on top of the bench. I then watch him bench and he does bench it but his range of motion is maybe literally a few inches as he is gripping the bar really wide. I also wonder how much of an assistance that rubber mat is contributing to this.

Not sure what mat you are talking about - have a photo by chance? Small build guys have the potential to bench more then those taller with longer ROM. My buddy was 175lbs at 5' 7" benching 315 with full ROM. Meanwhile I was 30lbs heavier and 3" taller benching the same weight. Regardless, if his ROM is only an inch then his back must be so damn far off the bench that it is comical.

Wide grip typically means he is training for competition. Did he seem like he was in a strong shape?

I can increase my bench by laying on a rubber mat? Sweet good tip. I thought I still needed to press the weight with my chest and triceps.

I don't think I'll be going in to the gym today. Will be tomorrow. So I'll take a picture of said rubber workout mat I'm referring to.

I get what you're saying about small build guys being able to push more weight. But this guy's body type just didn't match the weight he was working with. All the smaller height guys I've seen that are able to throw up those massive weights at least had pretty sizeable arms and chest. This guy had neither. He's in shape. Not questioning that. But his build is more akin to someone in martial arts...thin and cut.

Nah why bother!! Too much work

I'll try and upload a short vid I took of a dude w tremendous dad bod..he loads 405 on the Smith for inclines and his ROM was literally 2"-3" at best.

Same dude would pin the preacher machine and budge the handle upwards an inch. I'm looking at this guy like WTF. I'm a dick so I walked over after his set and said sarcastically, "damn bro you strong AF,whats your secret?" He looks at me w a straight face and says all cocky-like "genetics dude, pure genetics" SMFH

So here are the pics I promised. I also laid the rubber workout mat on one of the benches to show you all what he was doing.
