So Checo had a run, what was he supposed to do, back off and crash out the front of the field. We have seen that happen enough. Checo's car was on the racing line. Was his move optimistic? Yes and if he had succeeded would Max have passed him 4 or 5 laps latter, probably. If I had a buck for every optimistic crash causing move Max or Lewis has made I have a good roll of cash.

Doesn't it occur to you that he turned into LEC with nowhere for LEC to go ie Checo's back wheel went over LEC's front. Hence, if he kept out of the way Checo would have bagged some real points and a possible podium keeping HAM at 3rd place in the championship with just 3 races to go and keep his boss Horner happy.

Nope, it occurs to me that Checo was turning into the corner and came into contact with Leclerc. Note that there was a car's worth of room inside of Max. Sometimes there are racing accidents and it's just racing. The FIA saw it that way and so do I. Checo's post race statement was very honest and responsible. I'm sure Checo got a lot of Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda's but that's his cross to bare.

This. We all get it, home race and all that so you want to race hard and try to win but you also have to be realistic and honest about it. What was Checo really racing for? VER was likely going to win anyways so as someone who is P2 in drivers standings, it’s about maximizing points to stay there especially with HAM receiving 0 points the last 2 races. Instead, he went for an overly ambitious pass and crashed out. You don’t try to win a race at turn 1.

At the point of contact LEC was a foot or more away from Max as he closed to LEC, unfortunately Checo failed to take that in and looked a prize Waldo in front of his home crowd..and his dad.

Well mate it's no hate , just facts. This Isn't something from yesterday , Checo actually fails throughout the last 2 seasons ..'

Yes . This track is wide , very wide . And wide enough for 3 cars alongside each other in T1 .
But as you can see , Checo made a huge steering mistake by steering in too sharp into T1..
Charlie couldn't go anywhere , Charlie was 'sandwiched in between Checo and MAX !
This race incident is 100% Checo's fault by his own steering mistake ..
Checo gambled in his home race to win positions in T1 , but lost everything by steering in too sharp into T1 .
Was checo too optimistic and overmotivated in his home race ?
In one word : 'YES
It's very clear , Checo steered into Charlie , and even MAX was in danger-zone at that moment !

I don’t think anyone is disputing or forgetting how aggressive VER was, especially in 2021, but either he was a young driver with no experience or he was in contention for something. Can’t really fault a driver for trying to gain something for either himself from a drivers standings or constructors standings. What was Checo trying to achieve yesterday? It would be different if both Red Bulls were close in the drivers standings but they’re not, Checo is driving for P2 vs. HAM.

Regardless how you look at it, Checo was over ambitious going into turn 1 and caused a DNF for himself instead of playing the long game to maximize points for himself.

Sure mate . When a diver runs with the 'SLOWER car and wins positions anyway .
The next race strategy is : Defend your position ( elbows out & close your door)! to hold your position and to score the nessesary WDC-points .
That's how MAX ran in the slower car . And finally he won the WDC anyway vs the faster Merc's.

But Checo's situation is completely otherwise : As we know , Checo's drives the RB19 , one of the fastests cars of the field !
With this car , Checo can run in every at the podium ..
But he fails , in pretty much...In every race !
Checo is in danger in his fast RB19 for his P2 in the WDC vs LEW !
While LEW ran half this season in a Merc-5H1Tbox without sidepods !
This should never have happened....

There is also the difference in where they are in the championship.
Checo's #2 place is on the line, and thus his seat at RB, and he is in the car that is technically still miles ahead of the competition. Look at how Max won again. Checo just could have either gone wide in T1, or brake earlier and gotten LEC at either the next corner or the next straight (if necessairy wait for DRS)
He might not win from Max, but when is that ever gonna happen.
The 2 times he won from Max this year, was all because Max had bad luck (first with a broken driveshaft in quali and 2nd time with pitting just before the safety car). Both times Max finished 2nd and would have finished 1st if he didnt have the bad luck.
Checo is so lucky that Hammy makes the same stupid mistakes and Merc makes strategic mistakes, otherwise his #2 place would have been gone a long time ago.
But it gives us still some spectacle in the WDC.
But in reality there are so many drivers that deserve that RB seat more than Checo imho.
My prediction is that next year RIC will get that seat for 1 year (I don't think they'll sign him for more than 1 year at RB), and silly season next year is gonna be crazy.
So many drivers having their contract ended at the end of 2025, and they'll all want to have that seat that then RIC is occupying.
So maybe ALB, NOR, or even ALO at RB for 2026? Or RIC of course if he finds his 2nd career next year and is really good.


BTW, all those moments in that video of Max, Max was in a way slower car.
That also changes perspective for a driver.

Checo had the racing line, and was ahead of Charles. Charles decided not to back down as he got squeezed into T1. Many other drivers would have recognized that they were beat and not on line and backed out. Charles didn't. Blame goes on no one, they were both fighting and both could have avoided the accident. Racing incident. Move on with life. Checo and Charles have, Max fans though... they need something to complain about and since nobody is fighting Max, might as well pick on the little guy.
