Took a trip up to the NC Mountains, for a day of fresh air and winery tours.
EVERYONE was wearing masks, with no whining/complaining/refusals. It seems to be sinking in that if we want to keep things open, we need to do what is necessary to bring the numbers down (although they're still headed in the wrong direction). All of the masked up people are a change from even last weekend. |

It is good that there is still good and encouraging news amidst this pandemic. This is what we need right now and another thing that gives me positive vibes is our new smart toilet https://bestflushingtoilet.org/best-...oilet-reviews/. SO excited to try its performance.

It took three months, from early March to June 22, for Florida to cross 100,000 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. It took less than two weeks for the state to go from 100,000 to 200,000 cases — and the positive test rate keeps rising.

I’d like to think that the lower death rate signals a weakening of the virus but I haven’t seen any medical evidence or discussion yet. Doesn’t stop me from hoping. |

Fewer retirees (at least in FL) in the summer than the winter. There is still a large contingent, but I think the rise in FL is due to younger people out in bars, restaurants, beaches and other social settings, as well as more testing in prisons and farm workers. No doubt some retirees are still getting affected but as noted there are possibly some better treatment options, and the wise among the most vulnerable surely are being more defensive than when no one knew what was happening.

Not exactly an encouraging news, but based on my observations from the GA beaches this weekend, COVID is far from the main health problem of our country. May be earlier this year when it all just started, but strategically obesity is far, far more serious one.
Also, re so called spikes: |

No big spike here in IL, but new cases and hospitalizations have been rising steadily the last few days. We were down to an average of 650/day or so. Today we're at 1018. I think we're seeing the beginning of the July 4th holiday surge. I expect it to keep rising for another week or so.
Today we went to Champaign (by U of I) to shop for groceries since they have better stores. The store we were in was in full swing, but we saw just one 60-ish couple not wearing masks. Everyone else in the store was and the cashiers were really good about doing a full wipe down between customers. Back home I had to run to the local hardware store to grab some ant traps (that time of year) and I was the only person in the store wearing a mask. That's why this county can't go a day without a handful of new cases.

"Florida on Thursday announced nearly 9,000 new cases and 120 new coronavirus deaths, a record daily increase in lives lost. Governor Ron DeSantis called the rising cases a “blip” and urged residents not to be afraid."
Don't worry, it's just a blip according to your all-knowing governor.

That, like the temp hospital that they set up in the McCormick Place in Chicago, was a sensible precaution that luckily wasn't needed. And what does that have to do with the situation in Florida anyway?

It means you should start reading beyond the headlines. CDC website is a good start.
