iDrive 9 11/2023.30 here picked up my X1 mid January, and same CarPlay issues. Frequent music stuttering, phone calls cause it to disconnect. In fact, even recording a voice memo in iMessage causes a disconnect. Could be something to do with using the microphone but that’s just my engineering debugging brain…

Aside from CarPlay issues, I tried activating the three month trial of Driving Assistance Plus and it’s been over a week trying to enable. Reached out to support and the solution they gave does not even exist in the id9 menus.. it’s all id8.5 menu choices. 70 second reboot hasn’t changed anything.

Really hoping I don’t have to get an entire new head unit installed, it’s a shame BMW hasn’t addressed the CarPlay issues as it seems very widespread.

the latest update for iD9 should be 11/2023.42

I can confirm it does slightly fix the connectivity issue, at least on short trips.

I havent been to work so havent done a commute long enough to see if it drops, this friday I do a drive where normally connection drops right at the bridge so i'll update then.

I do have another appointment at service to finally have the head unit replaced in my car, which im told is THE fix?

at dealership, at this point my dealers service department is very aware of the issues of my vehicle and several other iD9 users that have recently bought in the last 3-4 months.

Among the digital services available for the first time from spring 2024 is the extended smartphone integration for vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 9. This enables the Siri voice assistant for the Apple iPhone to be activated directly by voice command, without needing to also press the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel. Elsewhere, the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps now boasts improved display of information on charging stations. The available images and ratings are shown both in the list of search results and in the detailed display. The charging station ratings will now be shown clearly on a scale of zero to five stars.

As a universal digital interface for data exchange between customer and vehicle, the My BMW App offers an ever-expanding number of functions. From spring 2024, Comfort Access with the BMW Digital Key Plus will be integrated into the My BMW App in vehicles equipped with
BMW Operating System 8, 8.5 or 9. In addition, the map view for selecting navigation destinations imported into the vehicle has been newly designed. This also improves the search function and the visibility of the most relevant content. Map and routing functions will in future be proposed based on current vehicle or user contexts.

Finally, the new E-mobility Analysis function will also be added to the My Trips menu item in the My BMW App. Based on the customer’s driving behavior, this function proposes the BMW model with all-electric drive system most suited to them. These recommendations are intended to help spark interest among users of combustion-engined vehicles in switching to an electric vehicle.

How did the conversation go?

- Do you realise that you have release a beta version of software into a critical safety environment and it goes wrong all the time?
- How do you feel when a software release goes into a car and bricks it to the extent it's got to go to a dealer for weeks.
- Do you do any visibility / disabled testing vs buttons for the older generations or do you just go for and help as it improves profits and you don't care about the rest?

I'm being tongue in cheek but this is a very poor UI and update to what should be a fab car and BMW is to be frank poor in this area at the moment. Yes some rivals aren't better but that still isn't good enough I'm afraid.

In France, my eDrive20 (OS9) just came back from the dealership with 11/2023.52 version of software. No idea of ​​the changes

More issues with id9!! Not sure if anyone else has had these:-

Spotify is stuck at loading. The only way I’ve found to “fix” it is to uninstall/reinstall the app and then go through the login procedure using my phone. Trouble is, I now have to do this EVERY TIME I get into the car.

Comfort Access randomly doesn’t work. When I walk away from the car, it doesn’t lock and fold the mirrors in. Other times it will unlock when I approach the car but not unfold the wing mirrors.

Voice assistant seems to be getting worse. Commands that work originally no longer do so.

I’m going to contact my dealer as the car needs the latest “dealer only” update, but how long do we accept such substandard software in our cars.

Couple the above with the shockingly bad clutch/gearbox combination and I am in the verge of returning the car and looking at something else. I love my BMWs (this is my 5th) but this car is a shocker!!

Android Auto connection issues are still there - it may work fine for a couple of days and then it stops and needs volume button long-press restart. It's also quite a bit more battery hungry, compared to my other cars with wireless AA. I found that this part can be fixed by decreasing the resolution of AA to 1280*720. I'm happy to report that after my 4 year old POCO F3 phone got surprisingly a major update from Android OS 12 to 13, I haven't experienced any Android Auto disconnects for 1 week.

I ran into the Spotify issue the other day. I might try a soft reboot to see if it clears before uninstalling.

First thing I tried! Didn’t solve the issue. The whole uninstall/install cycle takes a few seconds and I do t think the app really gets deleted. When I click on install it’s near instant.

The infuriating thing is that I’m now paying an extra £10 a month for Digital Premium so I can have Spotify (and some other niceties) and even it’s gubbed!!

We only use Spotify via Apple CarPlay, even if you are android can you just not use it via that and not on the car app, just a thought.

Yes you can use Spotify through Android Auto. The point is it "should" work flawlessly through BMW iDrive and it doesn't. I don't find much use for Android Auto over BMW iDrive other than the option to use Pandora or other apps but I'de be fairly happy if Spotify worked through iDrive as expected.

I only use Spotify through iDrive and it works flawlessly on ID9 (2024 X1 28i).
Spotify through Carplay gets interrupted every few minutes.

NB: Most of the time, I disable Carplay in the "mobile devices" app. I found that I need Carplay for better routing as the BMW navigation route selection is pretty bad. But that is for another thread.

I haven't figured out how to unintsall the Spotify that I added to the iDrive from the connected store app. I can only uninstall on my phone. Any hints on how to uninstall the ID9 version?

Go to the app screen, tap on Connected Drive. Then tap Manage on the left. Tap “Apps” and then scroll down to Spotify. Finally, tap the “three dots” and select “uninstall”. Bingo!
