Sounds pretty innovative. Pillows go flat after some time, so I can see his logic, lol.
While I have not seen one use a dog as a pillow, I have seen a bum fight a stray over a half eaten ham sandwich and a rotten pickle outside Joe Louis Arena. The bum lost when he tried to use his shoes like nun-chucks. True story. |

Yeah spent a couple of days in Denver around 16th street mall last week. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency. Was amazed at how many "homeless" or pan-handlers there were. Was also very surprised at how difficult it was to tell the difference between them and the regular granola peeps. Never seen so many tattooed people in such a short amount of time either. So much for getting a tattoo to go against the grain....

I don't give out money to pan-handlers at all period because of those professionals. and I'm not gonna try to figure out which one is which.

These complaining residents don't seem to realize how many people travel to and stay in downtown Denver for things other than tourism like conferences and expos that are constantly going on at the convention center. It's bad for business and detracts from appeal of the city if these travelers see a large transient population on the streets harassing them for money. As far as the tattoos go, it seems like staying un-inked is going against the grain these days.

I've given money to a panhandler once in my life, and I'll never do it again. Here's how it went.
Panhandler: "Hey can I have a quarter?" Me: Sure. *I get out my wallet and fish for a quarter as the panhandler can plainly see that my wallet is stuffed with cash* I give him the quarter Panhandler: "Can I have a dollar?" I feel bad for him and give him a dollar Panhandler: "Can I have $5?" Now I'm getting frustrated Me: "Why do you need a dollar?" He tells me some sob story about how he was kicked out of his house and he needed money for food and a bus fare (this guy was a teenager). I begrudgingly give him $5 and leave, but the whole experience kind of annoyed me and I knew it was totally my fault for giving in to peer pressure. |

A lady bum came up to me in the parking lot once outside the grocery store and asked for money. I asked why she needed it. She said she didn't have food and was hungry and needed money to buy some food from the grocery store.
Next to the grocery store, there was a Subway. That's where I had just left. I reached back into the passenger seat of my car and grabbed my sub and said, "Here, since you said you're hungry you surely won't turn down this delicious sub and a large sweet tea." She said, "Uhh, well I uhh, no... No I can't take that. I uhh... I need money because, uhh, you see... it is for my kid, and uhh, my kid can't eat that sandwich." She walked away after that and hopped into a car and drove off. Didn't see a kid in the car either. I had a good chuckle after that.

I'm sure you guys have heard the old "i ran out of gas and ned $20 so i can get back to -insert nearest town here- scam" or the "i just need money for bus fare to -insert nearest town here- version. My wife and i were in her pizza shop and a woman comes in balling and sobbing about her boyfriend took all her money....bla...bla...bla. She said she was hungry but really needed to get back over to Orlando (75 miles away) and didn't have gas money. The wife owned a delivery only pizza shop so she said she would make her a pizza. Scammer declined. So she said she could have all the money in the tip jar. (Delivery only so there was like $3 in it.) We figured it was worth $3 to never see her again. Well about 10 days later wife and i were eating at a restaurant about 20 miles away from the pizza shop and the same lady busts in the door balling away again about her boyfriend....... the owner of the restaurant was about to give her money as well as some patrons. My wife stood up and busted her by telling everyone that she was in HER restaurant about a week ago with the SAME story. It's a strange site to see the compassion of a small group turn slowly to anger as they begin to realize what was going on. The scammer hightailed it out of that place faster than it took her fake tears to stop flowing. There are a lot in Tampa, but you can tell the actual homeless from the pros pretty easily. My wife keeps granola bars in her glove box for the ones that are really homeless. I think it's halarious when you see a guy with $50 shoes, a ball cap, sunglasses, back pack and.... a COOLER on a corner collecting money. Saw one chick sit down during a green light and check her email on her smartphone. Pretty soon these guys will have their radios with them and have government paid breaks from the hard work of pan-handleing.

Well, as an update, our townhouse just sold for $460K, so we got within $5K of ask. And it was only on the market for 3 days. Nice to exit out, but it still is a little irritating thinking of all the nice homes I could buy in the states...

True, anesthesiology requires more than 6 years for the program in the US.

Congrats! Since you have new construction going on, and if you're a DIY-er, I'd take as many pix as possible during the pre-drywall phase. That way you'll know exactly where gas lines, plumbing, electrical, etc... is routed behind which walls. Now is also a good time to start running wiring for surround sound. Also, if you can, have the builder run a few empty runs of conduit to the attic area to the breaker panel. You'll save yourself lots of dry walling in the future if you want to add outlets, lighting, etc... later. The joys of assessments is in your future!
