That’s not what I was getting at. Was just surprised we didn’t hear about other cases except for the Gabby one which gained national attention. I understand though. Just sucks for the families that cried for help and didn’t get much vs this case where Federal agents got involved.

This is one of the problems that the BLM movement was trying to address. LEOs need a variety of training and the few months they are getting isn't enough. |

yahoo news reported that neighbors saw the parents and Brian leave their house with attached camper.
Charlene and William Guthrie, who moved to North Port, Florida, this summer, said they told authorities they saw Christopher and Roberta Laundrie attach what appeared to be a new camper to their truck and drive off for what the couple assumed was a weekend-long camping trip with their son. "I saw them doing some work. And then when they prepared for their trip, I saw them loading the camper," William Guthrie told Fox. He said he thought it was odd for the parents to go on a camping trip with their adult son in that particular camper, which he described as "small." The Guthries said they reported the incident to police after authorities came to their home while investigating the disappearance of 22-year-old Petito. They were not sure if Laundrie returned from the trip with his parents. |

I think it is tough to ask those police to make a call on the situation they had in front of them, there's not much else they could do I think.

A separate incident /commotion was reported yesterday, involving the couple in Wyoming on August 27th. This is a two full weeks after the Moab, UT encounter with police and possibly one of the last sighting of Gabby alive. Laundrie supposedly arrived home to Florida on September 1st.
This altercation sounds much different than the first, almost like there was an incident between waitstaff and them. |

This case, so far, is the epitome of not enough info and no info.

No way, we have to train them to be psychics! They should have known she would be killed at some point in the future! It's unacceptable that bad shit happens! We MUST fix all bad shit NOW!

Personally, I like the law and most of the cops I know/have worked with in the past like it to. It takes some of the burden off of them and diffuses the situation for the night at least. |

My personal take: I blame social media. I've seen so many stories lately of social media influencers (or wannabes) dying from freak accidents or stupid situations that they placed themselves in. Not sure what happened here-no one does at this point- it's all conjecture. But those placing the responsibility on the police to have the forethought to see where this was going are misguided at best. People make their own decisions, and place themselves in these situations. What other responsibilities should LEO's have? Marital counselors?? Psychology degrees?? special needs experts?? Pharmacologists? That's a lot of responsibility.
And not once did we hear BLM shout "RETRAIN THE POLICE" at the top of their lungs for over a year. Only "DEFUND THE POLICE"--Possibly the stupidest slogan for an organization ever. |

Edit: I do agree on the defund the police thing being a stupid take. If anything they need more funding to take on all the things you mentioned or spin them off into specialized departments/fields. Because they and other social services have been defunded to the point it has been put on the police. |

News flash: The more 'popular' you are the more people care in general
A rockstar goes missing, people care. A no name person goes missing, very few people care. In this case she/they had some social media presence. Also, news stations pick and choose what they want to air and run with. If there is no juicy story why mention every person who goes missing? In this case there is enough to talk about that it is interesting and entertaining. The news is no longer about giving the facts, it is about getting views and clicks. If you report on every no name hiker that goes missing people would get bored rather quick. There needs to be some flesh on the bone so they have something to run with. This is not about race. Don't make it be about it.

because its more than just race, and that guy is trying to make it a race thing. like i posted before, theres over half a million missing people cases a year. This case is getting national attention because of her social media following, the fact that it took place across the US, and all the missing/suspicious details of the case. A single missing person where the bf didnt randomly show up and not say anything isnt near as intriguing as this. Add to it that her parents go it out to the media nd blasted it all over social media, and its no surprise its getting the attention it is.

Not I. I quit giving them clicks long ago… don’t watch or consume any of it on any kind of regular basis. I’ve closed all social media/app accounts and turned off my news feed. Yuck to it all. Wish more would do the same as to your point, they consume it will continue.

I post links to whatever news article pops up on my Apple feed. Even said above that I’m not trying to make it about race; merely pointing out that I wish every case gets as much attention. But if folks want to keep piling on saying this and that about race then so be it.
