Marko after the race : We had to change MAX's setup in the QF to get more temp. and grip in the softs.
This setup didn't worked for MAX with the hards in the race , and that's why MAX didn't had grip with the hards.
Only MAX can win a race with a lack of grip ..

I look at it this way - the Mcl could not have had a better weekend whereas RBR had their worst weekend so far and still managed pole and P1.

Yeah . As I said , currently the McLaren is the best car of the grid .
McLaren got big upgrades at the Miami GP and they work very well .

Just like in Miami the McLaren is extremely fast , and certainly in the last stint of the race when the McLaren runs lighter with less fuel .
The McLaren is very kind for the tires !

The RB20 got upgrades at Imola , but they struggled the whole weekend to find the setup sweetspot.
The RB20 really s@cked with the hards in the last stint. MAX had no grip !
The Red Bull Team has some work to do..

Great race from Lando , just like in Miami !

Lando handicapped himself by having 2 lap older tires.

if he had a better 1st stint and came in at least 2 laps later his tires will be the same age as Max and then we should have a better understanding of which driver/car is better.

but maybe i don't know the whole story, didn't watch the race

Red Bull Racing was struggling with the car set-up all race weekend. From what I heard, about 11 hours of simulator work down at Red Bull HQ by former F1 driver Sébastien Buemi on Friday-Saturday, greatly contributed in remedying/limiting complex set-up issues before the qualies. With the Friday set-up, it was going to be pretty complicated to get the car competitive for qualies and the race.

In the end Verstappen & C° pulled it off, but it was no walk in the park. During the race, Verstappen's RB20 was getting worrisome low on battery and according to Verstappen he had virtually no grip anymore during the final stage of the race but was still required to go flat out to secure the race win:

"I think the whole race I had to push flat out to try and make a gap initially. I think on the medium tyres we were quite strong, on the hard tyres it was just a bit more difficult to manage, especially in the last 10, 15 laps. I had no grip anymore, I was really sliding a lot. I saw Lando closing in, so the last 10 laps I was just flat out. It’s very difficult when the tyres are not working anymore and you have to go flat out. I couldn't afford to make too many mistakes. Luckily we didn’t, and super happy of course to win here today. We changed a lot on the car. We didn't have a lot of information going into the race, maybe that’s why on the hard tyres it was a bit more difficult for us. But I think from where we started the weekend to now, we can be incredibly pleased with a pole and a win. I'll take that!"

The Norris win was never on as the excitement built on the end laps with Lando himself confirming @ .38 as he closed up the tire temps on the 'Laren went up in MAX's wake while of course MAX was in fresh air evening things out and not even putting the 4 car in DRS position.

So we could say in other words that MAX's low battery and off but still usable hards with Lando's 2 laps older tyres but now worn on the last lap with overheating balanced it out in MAX's favour.

Max Verstappen is known to participate in sim racing events during downtime from his busy F1 schedule. Impressively, this weekend the three-time world champion won both the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and the Nürburgring 24-hour on iRacing.
On Friday, Team Redline announced that Verstappen would be driving the No. 20 BMW GT3, and naturally his fans wondered how he would participate during the F1 race weekend.
The Dutchman had a special racing simulator made that would be small enough to fit in his motorhome close to the Imola circuit.
“We were supposed to ship it in a Formula 2 trailer with MP Motorsport, but the sim was just a tiny bit too big, so it didn’t fit, but they helped us out greatly,” said Atze Kerkhof, Director of Team Redline.
MP Motorsport came up with a solution and sent the sim rig with a flower vendor who was headed to Imola anyway.
“The sim got shipped in a bus or in a trailer with flowers to Imola… He had everything pre-connected, so basically it was almost plug-and-play,” Kerkof said.
Verstappen took pole position in Imola qualifying, which ended at 5:00 p.m. CEST. Meanwhile, his Redline teammate Diogo Pinto was starting the 24-hour race. By 8:45 p.m. Verstappen was driving his first two-and-a-half hour night stint at the Nürburgring.
After some sleep and solid stints by Pinto, Chris Lulham, and Florian Lebigre, Verstappen returned for another two hours at “the Ring” before doing 63 laps around Imola in his Red Bull.
At the end of his second and final stint, he joined the Discord channel with Twitch stream commentator Luke Crane and Team Redline teammates.
“Right, mate, that was lovely,” said Verstappen. Crane congratulated him on a nice final stint and Verstappen replied, “Yeah, extended the gap a bit, very lovely… I have to go.”
Chris Lulham drove the final stint for the No. 20 and secured the win for Team Redline after 24 hours. Fifteen minutes later, Verstappen took the green flag at Imola.
The Dutchman dominated the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix; McLaren driver Lando Norris was a close second and Charles Leclerc finished third for Ferrari."
