Rules are rules though, players cannot cross onto the floor. (as far as i understand) But i bet they will let them play because it is the playoffs, which is BS |

Nor did anyone else. No further action. It's a joke that it needed to be reviewed. It's the playoffs, let's just play basketball. American society is pussified enough already. Anyway, the rule is this: "During an altercation, all players not participating in the game must remain in the immediate vicinity of their bench. Violators will be suspended, without pay, for a minimum of one game and fined up to $50,000." Crossing onto the floor alone is not determinative. You can be on the floor and still within the immediate vicinity of the bench. If the scrum was on the other side of the floor and you wandered down to that side, obviously a different story. Staying within the "vicinity" of the bench is pretty vague really. Does that mean six inches from your seat is okay? One foot on the floor and one by your chair but not two feet on the floor? And while rules are rules, there's the letter of the rule and the spirit of the rule. If we get down to looking at whether someone's foot was one inch closer to the floor than the bench, I think that's a little much (and missing the point). The spirit of the rule is that the NBA does not want the fights to escalate to the level of bench-clearing brawls in the MLB. Human nature is that you'll want to defend your teammates (if you're a real man). Punishing someone for the slightest of reactions would be absurd. I'm watching the playoffs to see basketball, not to wait for the league to hand down punishment to players. However, a player clearly running onto the floor (from the bench) to participate in the scrum is another matter. But that's not what happened here. Did you watch the video? No Pacers wandered from the bench out into the scrum.

I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the refs to find a way to call that shot back. They tried so hard to hand the game to Houston in those last 30 seconds.

Only reason Lillard was SO open was because McHale (in his wisdom) decided to bench Lin and put Parsons on him w/only 0.9 secs to go in the game.
Nothing against Parsons who is a very good & underpaid small forward, but he is not THAT quick. In fact, he performed so badly that Lillard was at the top of the key w/the ball before Parsons even knew he was there. SWISH!!! Would the result have been different if Lin was given the assignment. Who knows? Lillard was locked in shooting 3's all night and he was blowing by Bev every time Bev was on him; supposedly because Bev had a fever, but Lillard has done that to Bev many times when he did not have the excuse of an illness. However, Lin was on Lilliard all night like stink on sh*t. He didn't stop him every time -- no one can -- but he stopped him several times and made him alter his shot when he didn't. It was also mentioned by the ESPN announcer said that the Rockets had 1 foul to give and the coaching instruction should have been to foul Lilliard immediately BEFORE he even put up that shot. Lin certainly could have done that and, if that was done, the result may very well have been different. The upside for Lin is that he cannot be blamed for this loss. If Lilliard had made the winning shot over him, everyone would shouting "off with his head" and repeating the nonsense that Lin can't defend and has no business playing in the NBA. However I don't hear anyone asking for Parsons' head, even though he clearly blew the assignment. Oh well . . . My only hope now is that Lin is traded to another team with a coach & system that will allow him to actually play PG and make use of the skills he has demonstrated on the court whenever McHale hasn't benched him (or told him to just give the ball to Harden and not to do too much) in order to prevent it.

Exactly!!! Same chickenshit bs they pulled against my Mavs game five suspending Blair where his foot accidentally grazed Splitters head. We may have one in San Antonio and closed them out yesterday. The league always finding a way to "extend the series".....

It has long been known that the NBA wants the top teams with best records to meet in the Finals!
They start giving out fouls and suspensions like water in the playoffs where role players matter. |

I'm glad my explanation was helpful/made sense. Sorry it was so long-winded. I argue for a living.

I'm tired of being nervous about it though. I just can't see the Hawks winning 3 games in Indy. We had the fewest home losses in the league. I'm usually to superstitious to make predictions but screw it, I think we'll handle them 103-89.
