CarPlay shouldn't take years to implement... Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen and a lot more already offer it. Shame on you BMW, shame on you.

Can't wait to see these organic lights in person. I prefer to call them lazer lights though.

They're not laser lights, though. BMW's laser headlights are an entirely different thing, and those aren't slated to come to the US for a while.

Got it. Still seems like historically the M models are a step behind the non-M counterparts, even with production dates being close. The e92 M3 never even got the cool, white halogens that had been present on the LCI non-Ms for a while.

I hope CarPlay is an optional thing. I have CarPlay on my other car and never use it. I like the iDrive interface SO MUCH more.

Besides, CarPlay is very limited. If you want to switch to FM radio or a CD, you can't do that from within CarPlay. You have to exit CarPlay first. That's not a smooth, quick operation when driving.

Well MY2016's are out so no Carplay until MY2017.

Probably not getting into another lease, but if I did, it would be a MY2016 ... shoot!

Might vary from person to person, but I don't know anyone I am friends or work with that listens to FM radio anymore. Apple's ad-free stations do me just fine.

That said, I haven't actually used CarPlay, but think Apple in general has UI down way better than BMW.

That's some nice updates, about the CarPlay will it be a Dual Boot thing with iDrive?

I never tried CarPlay with a car that has a decent system; ie BMW iDrive or Audi MMI for example...

That depend of what is the final output of the M2 let say 365hp versus a 335hp M240i that is even worst than the 35hp difference between the 1m and the 135i.

Not to mention:

Brakes
DCT
Real suspension
Exhaust
Substantive motor/cooling changes
Wheels
Wider track/body
Etc, etc...

Basically the same list of shit that's different between a 3er and M3, 4er and M4, etc., etc...

I lived with a 235 for 17 months - the M2 is going to be a very very different experience...and I know that because I have driven the F80X M cars enough to know that firsthand.

CarPlay pales in comparison to iDrive imo. I guess it's a great option for cars that don't have a these features.

Not quite the same list of shit. Some of the things that the M3 and M4 have over their non-M counterparts include carbon fiber body panels, optional carbon ceramic brakes, optional M Performance exhausts, optional LED headlights, and unique seats. The M2 won't have any of these.

Still doesn't mean he's wrong. LED headlights and a CF roof/trunk are not going to exactly transform the way a car drives

I agree. IMO CarPlay is great for those cars who don't have an established or polished infotainment system (majority of the car industry). I don't blame BMW for taking their time in implementing CarPlay. I think BMW has done a great job with improving iDrive over the years. Unless you absolutely need iOS-like functionality in your BMW, I don't see why you would use CarPlay over iDrive with its built in iPhone support (assuming you have the required add ons).

- 2017 230i and M240i - not LCI, just new engines, plus whatever parts BMW adds across the board for the new model year (in this case wifi hotspot)
- 2018 230i and M240i - LCI with engines introduced a year earlier.
- 2018 M2 will get new LCI design features in the places that it shares with regular 2er cars. Whether it will also be called LCI, is unknown - BMW is very inconsistent in that regard when it comes to M cars.
Will the 2018 M2 be getting the B58 engine?

yeah exactly...that why I'm asking how BMW is going to offer CarPlay? as part of iDrive? optional boot?
