I think no matter what, Max was winning this race because he is clearly in a class of his own and only continues to prove that each race.

Looking at the WDC, that would've made quite a difference.
Now RUS trails 2nd place in the WDC (both PER and LEC) with 13 points.
Otherwise RUS would've trailed 2nd place with 22 points.

With MERC improving their car relatively faster than Ferrari (I think), and with Checo having a disappointing 2nd half of the season, things like this can make the difference at the end of the year. Imagine RUS being runner up in the WDC at the end of the year, with all that happened to MERC.

He hints on when the safetycar route went through the pitlane, that maybe RUS could have dropped a gap so HAM could pit during that gap.
But of course there are rules for this. 10 car lengths, and I think that wouldn't have been enough time for a pit stop.

Frankly I was amaized that the FIA allowed pitting at all during the drive through the pitlane. As the whole field drives through the pitlane I think that's a bit of a dangerous situation. SAI unsafe release is one of those examples. Can of course happen any time but with more traffic, the chance increases.
Also you don't want other cars to influence the race during the sc/vsc. That 10 car gap is one of those rules put in place just for that.

Apparently he was overhead on a mic that was left live saying that he was looking to pass on 2023 and look for a drive back in 24.

So it might be a reserve drive role is all that's on offer to keep his toe in. There is a strong possibility he might drop out of F1 altogether.

Dead end spot for DannyR. When Lewis retires, every driver on the grid will be calling Toto (maybe not Max or Carlito). Toto will have his pick of drivers.

Also, DannyR is not a sim, set up guy and technically limited. Dannyr performance at RBR relied on Seb and Max set ups. He called them set up geeks. He would “arrive and drive by feel” using teammate setup. At Renault he used Hulkenberg’s set up.

At mclaren, Lando’s set up did not work for him and trying to develop set up skills after a decade of copying teammates is not working.

Final point. Toto is the master of securing drivers with long term contracts at other teams. He places average drivers at potentially strong teams and top tier drivers at mediocre/non-constructor teams.
