That happens after a period of time if the update version is unable to install in your car. It doesn't mean the update is withdrawn generally.

Thought I’d give quick update after my car getting two OTA updates in recent weeks: -
System speed is much quicker and loads times are dramatically reduced;
Spotify is now rock solid (it was just unusable for me before the update);
Driver Recorder and Augmented View are working perfectly;
I can now search for more postcodes using voice controls (including my home address);

Other things I’ve noticed include pulling away from junctions etc is much better, gear shifts are much smoother and power delivery is much improved.

In short, this how the car should have been 12 months ago when I bought it and it feels that BMWs “public beta” is coming to an end. Anyone buying an X1 will certainly benefit from the pain and frustration we’ve all been though.

My car was delivered today and updated to 03/2024.40

iX1 owner since Saturday. Car came on 03/2024.XX and I updated it to 03/2024.40. So far zero issues with Carplay. Music keeps playing, no hickups and only one time a call dropped in 2 hours of calling (dropped more in the old car...).

"Hey Siri" did stop working today (I made sure to turn it on during CarPlay setup) and don't find any option to turn it on or off in the config afterwards.

I must admit I was worried reading all these threads on CarPlay issues but so far so good for me too. It has only been a day though so let’s wait and see.

The plague that was affecting car play has switched over to Android Auto (at least for me). Since the last update to 03/2024.40 Pandora and other music keeps disconnecting.

Since it’s been announced that the new 2025 X3 will arrive with the ID9 system, perhaps BMW will devote a great deal more attention & incorporate the necessary fixes much sooner. As popular as the X3 is they simply can’t afford to use their X3 buyers/leasers as test dummies (beta testers) the same way they have done to us with 2024 X 1’s.

I suspect they know this already & many of the things we hate the most are already set to be corrected relatively soon.

I also have no issues since 03/2024 id9 update. Maybe there are some minor ones that I can't detect. Android Auto is also very stable. Speaking of AA, I highly recommend everyone to enable its power saving mode from setting. It dramatically reduces phone heat and battery drain, without causing any chnage.

AA is working for me great too. CP tested only once, worked too ok.

AA Still drops for me whenever there is a drop in phone signal. Doesn't happen every time I go along certain roads but most times (Occasionally I get an image showing that I have lost wifi but when I get that the system just carries on working as normal, presumably without traffic updates etc). It also does not automatically restart when the signal is stable like it used to do with my 330e, I have to lean forward select the bell, then select reconnect aa, all while keeping my eyes on the traffic.

Thanks BMW, i was sceptical, but they really solved my Navi + Assistant problems. I today updated Assistant App in car + downloaded again languages, and all is working!!!! After 4 months.

May I ask what was your issue?
I'm on 2024 X2 based in Greece, and with some magic the audio guidance in BMW Navi is disabled and there is no way I can enable it again.
And when I got the car 2 months ago my first trip did it with voice guidance...

from new car (02/2024) i had disable voice guide in navi + disabled voice assistant (not worked at any language installed). Nothing helped, in service they completely reinstalled all software and nothing. later BMW said its problem on their side and promised to do fix until july.

and now is really working for me with last app update in car.

for your problem do this: update in connected drive in car personal assistant app + others if they are old. Then delete all languages in personal assistant menu + download them again, they will work again for you.

It seems some languages are corrupted from start and now should be fixed.

The trick with switching languages did it. Although, only when drove for 4-5 kms I got the download prompt.

Now, I’m facing another issue!
I get the speed warning message every time I stop and start the car (at intersections, traffic jam etc.) and when reaching speed around 3-4 km/h I got the pop up.
Haven’t set any speed warning of course, tried to disable it, made a reset with pressing the volume button, left the car 3 hours stationary but nothing helped.
And this problem came when activated the 3 free months testing of assisted driving plus!

Man, I really hate the way BMW took with iDrive 9 and Android UX. Everything is buggy as hell and we’re long time beta testers.

Set a showed limit very high. Those should solve it. It worked for me a few months ago when I had the same issue.

If that doesn't work, I would do a full reset.

some newbie questions -
1. where do i find iconic sounds?
2. if im on carplay playing itunes, and i want to swap to radio as music source, is there anyway to just change to radio without removing my navigation on my infotainment? I find that everytime i change to radio the navigation disappears and i have to go through multiple clicks

Hello!

1. Iconic Sounds

1A. All Apps --> Driving Settings --> Drivetrain and Chassis --> you'll find the "Iconic Sounds" option within the menu
NOTE: You should also be able to select the option without going into the Drivetrain and Chassis menu

or

1B. The "Driving Settings" button is located near the "MY Modes" button and so pressing that will take you to your driving settings --> follow the same procedure as 1A! ^^

2. Media/Radio - Yes

2A. You can add the Media/Radio/SirusXM to your favorites/shortcuts bar, and so once added, if you are in apple carplay, just pull the tab menu down --> select radio/media and then it'll take you directly there.
NOTE: To add something to your favorites bar/menu, just press and hold the Radio/FM/XM until the car brings up the prompt that will ask if you want to add to favorites.

2B. On the left of the navi screen, there should be a "Media" button and pressing that will also bring up your media/audio sources.

2C. You can also have the radio and other lists/messages appear and be controlled in either the Head - Up Display (HUD) or in the Instrument Cluster, but NOT both - I hope this makes sense?

All Apps --> Displays --> Instrument Cluster --> edit your settings here!

A few final tips + Rant :

3. You can have your "home" menu/widgets be configured to have your Media/Radio (top), phone (bottom), and Navi (the right of the screen) all appear on the control display simultaneously!

4. You can also configure your car to have the map/navi appear in the instrument cluster and leave the control display for whatever media you are playing
NOTE: You can also do the reverse (i.e., have your media appear in the instrument cluster and keep the control display on Nav)

5. Both Sport and Efficient modes can be added to your favorites/shortcuts menu as well. Once added, this will allow you to bypass having to press the "MY Modes" button to activate.

Anyways, sorry for the rather lengthy, yet detailed post, but I hope this helps! Please do not hesitate to ask me (us) any additional questions - we all family!

PS - iDrive 9 has got to be the WORST Operating System (OS) in the whole auto industry and the "Digital Premium" Subscription?? Recall that Apple CarPlay in the 2019's was once available via subscription only and after your 1 year trial period is over, you'll have to pay to continue to use it... that didn't last long now did it??

PSS - BMW is just doing too much! If "doing too much" were to have a picture? You would see BMW standing right next to it. iDrive 7 (not available in any of the X1's) is the best example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - they could've kept the same iDrive OS; just change the design/layout/color and call it a day!

I love BMW with all my heart, but they need to get it together with iDrive 9. I hear sooo many complaints about it and I find myself having to take my eyes off the road more and more to use that thing.

CarPlay is a disaster in iDrive 8.5-9. Informed BMW NA I am going to Lemon Law my M35i. Well over 30 days at dealer. Six months of ownership. Love the car. I can’t take it anymore.
