one of the best fights I have seen in awhile last night between Edgar and Maynard! I have no idea how Frankie was able to keep takin that punishment in the 1st round. He was literally dropped 3 times, but somehow he was able to make it out and comeback to dominate the 2nd. Although no one wants to see a draw, I thought it was the right decision. Maynard should have won the first round 10-8, and then he won the 3rd. I thought Edgar was able to win rounds 2, 4, and 5 making it a 47-47 draw.
Any thoughts?

great night of fights, from the prelims to the main card
Those kicks Tavares was throwing were nasty, Baronis legs looked like he had been whipped w/ a belt. I was excepting more from Josh Crispi but Poirier looked great for an up and coming guy, Crispi likely isnt getting a shot at Aldo anymore after that loss. Great KO by Stephens, I thought he for sure had lost that fight but just goes to show you, when you got power, its never over. Clay Guida is an animal, I was so happy he won, that dude is great. Nate Diaz, as good as he is off his back, he gets too comfortable and ends up spending the whole round on his back and if the other guy has good defense, he will win the round. Seems like this is the biggest hole in his game, either pull of the submission or get back to your feet. Holy Crap at Brandon Vera's nose, I was surprised how dominant Brandon was on the feet but was even more surprised by how he couldnt do anything off his back. Brian Stann has nasty power, that exactly how I saw the fight going. The main event was great, I couldnt believe Edgar survived that first round, his legs were so wobbly. Props to him for coming out in the 2nd round like the 1st never happened. Gray totally gassed him self in the first, like Randy told him, he was trying to go for the KO rather than focus on technique. By the end of the 5th, I looked over at one of my buddies and jokingly said, watch it be a draw. Glad Pettis isnt getting screwed and is still getting the next shot, IMO Gray should fight Ben Henderson and the winner gets another shot since both fights were pretty close, sans a ninja kick |

Thats how I saw it, although I gave Maynard the 1st, 10-8 and the 5th 10-9 and thought Edgar won 2nd, 3rd, 4th 10-9; mainly cause of all the takedowns and gave Gray the 5th cause I thought he did a lil more work in the feet

I just saw the fights and I have to say I'm an Edgar fan after seeing him come back after taking that punishment. I've never seen anyone do that before and he's got plenty of heart. I felt like a draw was the right decision although it's a bit anti-climatic. I also enjoyed the Thiago Silva fight although I would have liked to seen a finish.

Well instead of Pettis getting the shot, Dana retracted his statement and there will be a rematch. Really looking forward to seeing the top WEC guys againt the UFC.
Also, of local interest, we have Tony the Gun Bonello who is trying to put on a King of the Cage against......wait for it..........Ken Shamrock! |

Makes sense since the fighters need to rest and prepare for another fight.

yea, which really sux for Pettis, he's not a big baller like Rashad that can go 8-9 months w/ out fighting and be cool. Pettis is a young guy still, so he's prob gonna have to fight in 2-3 months just for the pay day and risk loosing and not getting a shot at the tittle, similar to what just happened to Crispi

Wonder what's the reasoning for a rematch, wasn't it a unanimous decision for Pettis? (other than $ of course, but wouldn't they make more on a Pettis title fight?)

It's in there but a little hard to see.
2-12-11 The first two quarterfinal bouts will take place on Feb. 12, with Fedor Emelianenko taking on Antonio Silva, while Sergei Kharitonov will face Andrei Arlovski. Earlier Tuesday, MMA Fighting reported Emelianenko's contract extension with Strikeforce, paving the way for his entrance into the field. The other two quarterfinal bouts include Josh Barnett facing Brett Rogers and Alistair Overeem taking on Fabricio Werdum, the last man to beat Emelianenko. While the Emelianenko-Silva and Kharitonov-Arlovski fights will take place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the location and date of the second set of quarterfinals is still to be determined.

There are too many tough guys in the lightweight division, so you know Pettis isnt gonna get an easy fight, maybe a guy like Joe Lauzon, who is coming off a loss and needs a win to stay in the hunt
The strikeforce HW tourney is gonna be great, looking forward to that. Emelianenko-Silva is worth it on its own |
