Hmm, my f80 didn't come with the angel. Only the devil.
I'll write my dealer.

My thoughts after 2 E90 M3s and 3000 miles in my F80 on the same roads: F80 is faster and has monster torque but the E90 counters with it's higher redline. At autobahn speeds above 110 mph the F80 pulls harder than E90 but seat of the pants feeling is that the difference is not night and day. At speeds below this in gear acceleration is night and day- it blows the E90 away easily - no contest. Steering is equal at speed but at slower speeds I prefer F80 - the E90 was very uncommunicative at speeds below 35 mph and felt very loose. Both cars feel similar weight when driving- F80 does not feel any lighter to me on the road. F80 has far better grip and will hold on far beyond when you would expect it to let go in the dry but in the wet the torque has to be managed carefully.....I've had wheelspin and slip in 4th at triple digit speed which is not pleasant. E90 is far easier to deploy it's power in the wet but F80 far easier in dry conditions. E90 I found easier to slide/drift- the breakaway point of traction is much earlier in the E90 than in F80 which needs severe provocation in the dry- it just doesn't want to let go unless you are extremely aggressive with throttle and steering and force it- I found E90 easier. I ' knew' the point where I could get the E90 to let go- still trial and error in the F80. DSC cuts in earlier and for longer in F80- sometimes cutting acceleration completely - I prefer E90 in this regard. MDM feels similar on both. Both cars feel planted at V Max on the Autobahn but F80 is even more stable than E90. Less body roll on F80 but not by a huge margin - but noticeable. E90 felt much smaller on the road especially width- I much prefer the E90 in this regard here in Europe where roads and parking spots can be narrow. Launch control on F80 works incredibly well- far better than my experience in both E90s. Exhaust and sound of F80 in Sport + is louder than E90 and I enjoy the sound but E90 wins at redline in this regard but not by a big margin. DCT - both great- but downshifts in E90 sound much better and louder than in F80. Some areas where the F80 really outshines the E90 ( IMO) 1. Brakes- no comparison...F80 far better. 2. Looks- F80 looks incredible in the metal, people look twice. The design is aggressive and the fenders and stance from all angles along with the carbon roof give it real presence . The E90s design from certain angles was less cohesive. The rear looks old now and it lacks the wide stance of the F80. Front still looks great. E90 on stock springs looked like it sat higher than F80 which has a squat stance. I've had more people comment on the way the F80 looks in my 2 months of ownership than I had in 3 years of E90 ownership. 3. Interior- I miss the thigh extenders on the E90 but that's it. The look of the interior, steering wheel, seating position and design are more modern looking and far better in F80. 4. Range and gas mileage far better in F80 when cruising and still better when driving hard. 5. Bigger boot ( trunk) and rear seat space . 6. Torque - obviously 7. Acceleration- where I used to fear hot hatchbacks in the E90 at rolling speed bursts of acceleration below 100 mph I fear them not in the F80- they are easy prey!! 8. HUD is awesome. To summarise: As a car to just take out for a blast down your favourite road the E90 is the equal of the F80 in the fun factor ( both for different reasons) but when you combine all of the things the F80 is better at you have a better overall car by a large margin that is just as much fun but faster and more efficient to boot. Still loved my E90s though - great cars.

one thing I don't see people admit much is that the newest version has appeal just because it's updated. even cars that may have lost feel, gotten slightly uglier, cost more, etc still appeal to many people who just want the newest thing.
just an observation. both cars are top notch in my book!

would like to ask you guys how are you dealing with the size differential. when im in an f30 it feels way bigger (handling wise it prob does feel like a smaller car) but just sheer size of it.
im wondering if getting a coupe this time around would make it easier to adjust psychologically. |

but i cannot sit here and read some say the sound of the F80 is worlds better. because its not, its a fact. even the team who made the S55 would never say that. BMW has even gone off record and implying the E92 sounded better. kid you not. it was on the forums. |

Quality of sound is a personal interpretation and opinion. It is not a fact. But that's my opinion.

Haven't driven an F8x yet but I've seen one in person and it absolutely blows away the E9x ( especially the ugly E90; sorry owners but the rear end of this car is awful) in terms of styling.

I wish they'd let me drive the fucking car. I've been to 5 count them 5 dealerships! None of them would let me drive the car. Apparently it's mclaren p1 and la ferrari status. I ended up buying a cayman gts after a neighboring Porsche dealership let me drive one as well as a 200k Porsche 911 turbo through the canyons of southern Cali. How sad that I couldn't even drive the new m3, I called bmw of NA and expressed my discontent with the dealership experience, they didn't care.

IMO the E9x will be remembered for its engine. the F80 will be remembered for its chassis. |
