Here are scans of the service receipts when they fixed my clicking issue:
Seeing as they replaced both the brakes and the bearing.. I'm not sure what was the root cause of it - all I know is that it no longer clicks. |

Reviving old thread. Just dropped my car off for 14k service, both front wheel bearings need to be replaced. Indicated that I heard some clicking infrequently at low speed. Ask them to check to just make sure it wasn't anything meaningful. Got a call. They are overnight-ing the bearings. Will be replaced tomorrow.
Still an opinion this is a common issue? Opinion on whether it will be a repeat issue? I had not noticed any deficiency in handling yet...though with the power of the M5, any minor resistance from a bearing just starting to go bad is likely easy to miss!!! |

Honestly.. I have a feeling that they will issue a recall or a new design on these soon, I'm at 12,000 miles and I've gotten my left wheel bearing replaced 3 times, and the right wheel bearing replaced 4 times.
It's getting stupid. |

Mine's been clicking. I'm almost at 14k miles now. I'll have them change it next time I bring it in.

Same issue for my new M6 - Clicking noise started at about 1500 miles (!), really annoying for a car like that, and also very audible for people outside. Brought it to service at 2400 miles and both wheel bearings were broken. My broken bearings have been requested to be shipped to Munich for investigation. Let's see how many more miles the new ones will last. Does not seem too encouraging from what I am reading here... Definitely a case for a recall as it sounds.

Yes, it's very very common - my guess is that since most people here don't drive around with their windows open and music off, the sound proofing of the car results in no one really noticing this happening.
From what I've been told (don't quote me on this), this car has the wheel bearings of a standard 5 series - with a bunch more power, so it makes sense that these bearings are NOT holding up. I personally am on my 6th set of wheel bearings, yes, 6th. |

Holy crap 6th set of bearings!!! This is insane... I am now at 7.5K kms and got the evil 'clicking' sound... It's a shame....
It sucks to take the car to the shop, its just such a waste of time! |

I have the metal clicking noise as well. Dealer worked on the front passenger side today and will finish working on the driver side on Monday.
Funny thing is my SA said this is the first M5 came back with this kind of issue and they had sold about 40+ M5 this past 1.5 yrs. On a different note, across from the service bay from mine, there was another M5 had its entire engine, tranny & exhaust removed, my SA does not know what the issue was with that one as he wasn't the one handling the work order. Too bad I didn't have my cell at that time to snap a few pics of this major surgery. |

I have a 2014 F12 M6 with only 10,000 miles. I just had the front wheel bearings replaced bc they were making a loud clicking noise. Do u know why this is happening?

I just went in yesterday for the clicking sound from the front wheels when turning that other have described in this thread. I was told by the SA that there is now a TSB out that specifically says not to replace the wheel bearings. Instead there is some special wheel bearing grease that the tech should use to repack the bearings that supposedly cures the clicking sound. We'll see - waiting on the grease to come in from Germany.

That's just a band-aid solution. BMW doing this re-greasing method to save warranty cost. I doubt the fix is any good ... after perhaps, 6 months down the road, it will occur once again.

Update: Problem is back again. Already had the front wheel bearings replaced once, now after only 1,000 miles the clicking sound is back.
What is the best way to tell irvine BMW to fix this? |

There really is no other way but to have them (wheel bearings) replaced again. Car is under warranty and bmw has an obligation to fix it. Period.
