Nice write-up! If anyone is interested in an alternate option that may be a bit less involved to set up, Escort M1/M2 Dashcams borrow power from your Radar Detector. This is what I have run in all my cars for years, taking power from the rearview mirror to power the radar detector. See a picture of the setup below.
Not the best Dashcam around for sure but a good option.

I used the Dongar dongle to tap into the rearview, then used a USB splitter to power my dashcam and radar detector.
Works well, but stays powered after the engine shuts off (maybe powers down after a while?). |

Thanks for the write up. I am in the process of installing my blackvue dash cam that had been in my wife's 2021 BMW X3. Her 2025 X1 is a much harder install. The mirror cover is a PITA to remove. When I finally got it off (three pieces) I ran the wire across the headliner to the A pillar. Using your post I removed the pillar and down to the passenger side footwell were the fuse box is located. Unfortunately, as people here know, BMW did not grace us with a fuse card so my project has been halted. In addition to not knowing what fuses to tap into I have not seen a screw/bolt to ground it to. If anyone know what fuses and where to ground I would really appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks.
