I wonder whether they all come without, or whether it depends on the options you have specified. Maybe thinks like HK audio or Parking Plus/Pro (which can have Drive Recorder) might trigger data sockets?

it shouldn't, since it's supposed be part of the standard features for any X1 but I'll let you know when our M35s arrive - I've picked every option available except for the m sport package because I didn't want the seats but added the individual options + active seats

If there are no data ports how are the satnav maps updated? In my ID8, you need to plug in a USB key to update them.

I’ve received 2 or 3 OTA map updates during the 10 months I’ve had my 2024 x1 28i.

My nav maps have always been updated OTA, I'm on iDrive 8

For those who like to play music from a thumb drive I came up with something that probably is not new to many but you must know that I am an analog man in a digital world. I went to itunes and downloaded to my phone the music that I had downloaded to my thumb drive. I went into the idrive settings for the phone and checked the box for bluetooth music. Unfortunately there is no playlist just the song that is playing is shown of the screen.

I’ve received 2 or 3 OTA “OVER THE AIR” map updates during the 10 months I’ve had my 2024 x1 28i.

But Over the Air Updates are only for your region! They're not for all other maps!

So you need a data Port to update all maps. There's no other way!

It’s supposed to download the next map OTA when you cross regions.

Took my X1 back to the Dealer yesterday, service dept were most unhelpful but sales dept are following it up. they cannot find any notifications of a change in specification from BMW but some checks on vehicles on the floor indicated that it is the X1 18i that has been changed to the four power ports and no data ports the other X1 models seem to still have the two data ports in the front. They agree that there should have been some notification of the change to the specification and are pursuing the matter with BMW.

The X1 2.5e (PHEV, build aug 2024) has only 4 power ports..no data

I tested the USB functionality on the 2025 30e PHEV and successfully played MP3 songs from an exFAT-formatted USB stick.

Additionally, the drive recorder was operating seamlessly in the background, recording footage from the front camera and saving it directly onto the same USB stick, without requiring the Drive Recorder app to be active on the screen.

What month was your built? From the other posts the change seems to have happened around July/August.

Built July 2025. I believe it may depend on the trim.

How are you supposed to copy Drive Recorder recordings then? I needed one of the videos for my insurance and spent 2 hours trying to get it to work via the app and wireless... always crashing. I had to go out and find a USB-C to USB-A cable which luckily worked instantly.

At least they can mitigate this by sending recordings to the cloud or something.
