Still gathering info. I might pull the trigger tomorrow. I am doing an event this weekend and it would be a great opportunity to take a lot of shots. In the crew I'm working with is a photographer that's been published in all the motorcycle mags. He could really show me what the camera can do. I will be working with hot rod legend Gene Winfield chopping a top on a '53 Bel Air at the Boston World of Wheels show. I like to support local businesses and have a great shop near work so I will be visiting tomorrow.

That's a fine camera. What lenses did you get with it?[/QUOTE]
So I went with just the 5300 that came with an 18-55mm vrll, then searched an found the Nikon 18-140mm vr certified refurb for a great price and went cheaper on the zoom lens an did a Tamron 70-300mm di LD macro. Figured I wouldn't use the 300mm too much? But we'll see. Your opinion?? |

However, I shoot with 2 Canon 5D Mk III bodies and carry 5 of my 6 lenses with me on a belt every time I go on a shoot, but the kind of shooting I do is very niche (concert photography) |

Pulled the trigger today and went with....
Sony 6300 with 50mm and 70-210mm. I looked at Nikon 7100 & 5300 and very nice gear just felt too big and heavy. All my experience is with a Minolta x700 film camera and the Sony is more that size. It just felt right in my hands. The Sony does 4k video and stills at 11fps. Built in Wi-Fi. The only thing missing is optical viewfinder, but I can work around that. Lens selection is supposed to expand in the very near future. Although they have some awesome lenses in the master series. I won't be going master lenses for awhile as they run around $3k. Ouch! Camera and 2 lenses out the door for $1200. Very excited to get back into shooting. |

Funny timing on your post as I was in camera store when you posted. I'm really happy with my selection. I don't buy a lot of things and usually do research before I buy. Even with that I most of the time have buyers remorse days after purchase. I get over it and enjoy the "thing", but this time I don't as I believe this is the best pick for my needs. |

Nice looking kit. Show us one with the 75-210mm mounted. That rig can cover a lot of territory.
You can even get an adapter and mount a big Canon super-tele on it. A may try that myself after one more generation of refinement. Dave

Reading thru features and come across this:
Smile/face detect. Detect faces and adjusts various settings automatically. Sets to automatically release the shutter when a smile is detected. No shit.... |
