I think people are too butt hurt about for profit colleges. I think these problems work themselves out as the consumer is the ultimate decider of any college's fate. As far as entering the workforce goes, companies hire people to add value to their business. Your piece of paper does nothing to help the company add value - you do, or you don't.

Yes but that piece of paper adds value to you, not to the employer. While not entirely accurate, that piece of paper is good indicator of what you could possibly bring to the company.

I tend to agree with this to a degree. I know many, many people who had nothing going for themselves prior to entering [insert name of random For Profit school here]. They graduated, got their foot in the door somewhere, and are doing well for themselves. Sure, they aren't making $70k a year, but they are working in their field, making a livable income, and generally don't regret going to that random For Profit school. An Everest/WestCoast University/etc. degree may not match up to a USC/UCSD/Ivy League education, but not everybody needs or desires a USC/UCSD/IL education either.

BUT- the could have gotten an equal (or better) education at a public school/college for substantially less. For profit schools are garbage.

Where I live, good luck in getting into any of the local junior colleges, for example. They are all impacted, and to enroll into a core class that actually applies to a degree takes at least 2 years of waiting and taking bullshit classes like Pottery or Step Aerobics. It's a lot of time to waste for somebody who is motivated to make something of themselves "in the now". Not every For Profit school has 'Show Cause' issues with the Department of Education.

What state are you in because your avatar states "CHP".

If you are referring to California then you'd be wrong. I work at a CC and although there are some courses that are in more demand than others, there are definitely courses available and do not require a 2 year wait list. This applies to almost all SoCal CC's. The Chancellor is aware of the increased demand in core classes and has made efforts over the past couple years to improve course availability.

We are aware with the recent shutdown of CCi colleges that we may get an influx of straggler students now. See how that goes this fall.

Now, what program is and will always be impacted and have a two year wait list is the Nursing program!

I'm in California, and where I live in California, that is the case. Yes, many of them are aspiring nursing students, or those who are venturing into radiology, sonography, respiratory therapy, etc. I should've been more specific. The FP schools run into issues due to their medical graduates (...usually Medical Assistants, Medical Admin Specialists, etc.) not being placed. That's how they generally end up in 'Reporting' or 'Show Cause' status in the first place.

For profit is NOT the answer for them. It's overpriced garbage, they are actually better off moving out of state and going to school living completely off loans, then paying $550 per credit hour at a IN STATE For profit college. You know, the same ones that make you teach yourself online.

Moving out of state is not usually a realistic option for most people.
