LOL!
This is a very interesting market, I totally understand why the pitch forks would come out, I had a e92 m3 for a long while before the GTR. I've always been a turbo guy, so it brought me back to the BMW going this route for the M3. I know many will disagree, I had a z06 corvette for 5 years, and if all of a sudden they went to a turbo setup for the vette, I would have lost my shit as well! Different configurations will attract a different audience. I see alot of complaining of exhaust sounds, coming from 4 other turbo cars, I can tell you this exhaust is perfect for a turbo vehicle, its amazing, I wouldnt change a thing about it. Getting back to the GTR, the super-sedan is a tough marketplace to find the "right one". I don't think I could have pulled the trigger on a M4 versus the GTR, they effectively do the same thing, except the GTR is just too much fun. |

For the op, I think the new m3 is right up your alley. It's been a superior daily driver with turbo performance that you've become acclimated to. I'm averaging 27mpg on daily commute and soon enough I'll have an opinion on it on track.

I drive an E90 M3 and I've spent extensive time in my dad's new 2014 GTR black edition. I can tell you that I would never go to a turbo M4 if I'm driving the fastest turbo car on the road. The GTR is amazing and a much better turbo car than the M4, maybe upgrade to a 2015 GTR? with the incentives going on, you can get a brand new 2015 BE for $96k.

UPDATE: I received my M3 1/2/2015, and since then I have been able to drive the car 250 miles (had to wait for snow to melt). Every day I spend in the M3 I miss the GT-R less, and less

M's can easily be DD's where I could not DD the GT-R due to noise and stiffness. If I was looking for a weekend/fun car I would get the GT-R over the M4 but if you are going to drive the car in question at least 75% of the time as your DD, M4 would be my choice without hesitation. I've had an E92 M3 since 2008 and just picked up an M4 Vert. I'm still getting used to driving the M4, can't really get comfortable in it yet. I don't remember ever feeling uncomfortable in the E92. The M4 has much, much more torque and seems to just go and go.
I'm not a fan of GTR or Japanese cars in general, they just drive different. Not better or worse, just different.
